This week, we have been learning the nursery rhyme Little Boy Blue and based several of our activities around it. The children enjoyed creating their own horns, making faces using natural materials, and exploring sand and playdough alongside a variety of animal figures.

The children have also been developing their understanding of size by comparing everyday objects. This learning was extended through comparing heights using blocks, which they thoroughly enjoyed. We practised our fine motor skills by picking up pom-poms and sorting them into the correct numbered bowls from 1–5. The children also had lots of fun exploring the construction tuff tray — we may have a few future builders in our midst!

Towards the end of the week, we made the most of the warm weather by setting up a variety of water play activities in the garden. The children enjoyed exploring long lengths of guttering, large and small trays, cars, and jugs, investigating how water moved and flowed through the different resources.

This week, the children have been busy kicking off the week with our fantastic Sports Day! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
As the weather has been very wet, we have made sure to keep active in lots of different ways. The children enjoyed putting on their puddle suits and having fun jumping in puddles, as well as taking part in indoor obstacle courses to ensure they were still getting plenty of movement and exercise.
We have also been doing lots of scissor skills practice, carefully cutting a variety of fruits and vegetables. The children have been busy building tall towers and castles with the construction bricks, showing great creativity and teamwork.
In addition, the children have been practising tracing and writing their names, developing their confidence and early writing skills.

⭐️ What have the children been up to this last term? ⭐️

We have been having lots of fun being back together this New Year 2026.

We have also welcomed some new children to our preschool. We are very proud of how well they have settled in! 🤩

❄️ Winter Weather ❄️

Good evening

As we are experiencing a particularly cold weather snap at the moment, I thought it would be good to review what would happen at the preschool should we have snow, especially since we have some new families.

We would never close for a small amount of snow, as we know how important it is for many parents and carers that we stay open.

However, should there be significant snow and the decision is taken not to open the preschool, we would alert parents as soon as possible on this page and on our Greenleas Lower School website.

Should you hear that Greenleas Lower School has taken the decision not to open because of significant snow at any time, the Preschool would be closed too, as we are part of the school.

If we are open and heavy snow suddenly starts, causing concern about the safety of children, parents, carers and staff getting home, we would call parents asking them to collect their child as soon as possible.
We would also post an urgent message on this page and on the website. This happens very rarely, but I thought it best to make you aware.
