The truth is…. Often the solution is the most shockingly simple thing. The hard part? Working out what the solution is and how and when to implement it. That’s why it’s so hard for parents to know where to start; they’ve read the books, listened to podcasts and asked advice from everyone. It’s confusing and overwhelming.

Doing this job for 20yrs has given me the experience and clarity to see which strategies will work best for YOUR family.

If you’d like some of this clarity comment below and we can take the first step towards a calmer, confident and more connected family life.

Having headspace can create space to carry your child’s emotions. Emotion contagion is real and exhausting, needing space is not a failing.

It’s so easy to forget, but it’s true! Go gently on them, reflect on your expectations and just check whether they’re in alignment with their actual age.

When your child is not listening, being rude, lashing out or battling against everything you say, it can be exhausting and demoralising.

Most of the parents I work with tell me they avoid spending time with their child, and don’t enjoy their company, unfortunately avoiding them can only make the situation worse.

Behaviour is communication- we need to understand WHY they’re behaving this way, rather than looking for HOW we can make them stop. We can’t do that easily if we are avoiding being around them - no judgement, it’s a natural reaction to want to avoid stressful situations.

My top tip is to spend MORE time with your child, tell them how amazing they are, notice things they try hard at and let them know you’ve seen them, drip feed them compliments and try to connect with them in a more positive way.

Why do this? Because when we feel better about ourselves, we behave better. You’re more likely to want to cooperate with someone who is bigging you up, rather than putting you down.

It’s so easy to feel as though you’re being judged, and that nobody else gets it.

My promise to all families who choose to work with us is that you will not be judged, and we really do get it.

You don’t have to go through this alone, we can help support your child to move through these behaviours and we can support your family to repair relationships.

If you read some advice online and you think ‘that wouldn’t work for my kid’, that’s a good sign the advice wasn’t for you. Not every strategy is suitable for every family.

We are ALL different, and that’s wonderful. You know your child the best ❤️

Telling your kids what you expect of them really helps.

‘We are going to the supermarket and I expect you to walk alongside the trolley with me. You will not run off’

‘We are going to the park today and we will/will not be getting ice cream’

Clarity helps adults and children to manage expectations.
