Last week, which was full of participation at Dovery Academy, concluded with an amazing Rock Steady concert from some of our pupils!

The Team Captains led an amazing assembly for Red Nose Day encouraging support for Comic Relief! We're really proud of their efforts as well as the school community for donating to an important cause!

The school councillors have been nominated as well-being ambassadors for Dovery Academy. We model and promote the school values - Be kind, Be resilient, Be scholarly, Be inclusive, Be inspired.

We have had a visit from Central Bedfordshire Road Safety Team. Vanessa visited to welcome our new Junior Road Safety Officer Team who are currently supporting the school to take part in the Sustrans . Each team member has been given a pack of goodies to support them in their role and we can now all identify them by their special badges and we will be seeing a lot of them in the weeks ahead! Well done Dovery Academy JRSOs - let's go!

was a joy to behold, particularly the children taking part in the Book Tasting event. Each class engaged in exploring different genres of book and without exception, the concentration and engagement was evident. Congratulations to the teachers for their enthusiasm in making this event happen!

The children had an exciting visit last week from our Police and Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire, Festus Akinbusoye. He joined our Assembly and talked to the children about leading a good life, making a positive contribution to the community and the importance of school and staying in education. It was a very enjoyable interactive assembly and the children asked lots of questions.

Year 4 had an interesting visit to Thalia waste last month. They learnt all about how Thalia Waste treat ‘black sack’ waste from the Milton Keynes area, helping to divert rubbish away from landfill. They sort the waste, extract food and biodegradable items to generate renewable energy and use Advanced Thermal Treatment so that the remaining non-recyclable and non-compostable material can be used as a fuel to generate renewable energy. They can sort thousands of tonnes of rubbish each year! The visit really made us think how we could reduce our rubbish and recycle more.

Year 2 had their final Forest School session last week and as you can see they had the best time!

Year 2 completed their Primary Knowledge Curriculum Art unit on Self Portraits. They studied many different artists and how they have represented themselves in a number of self portraits over years. You can see some of the final outcomes here. Can you recognise them? A fantastic effort Year 2!

Year 3 have been studying the art of the Ancient Egyptians, using clay to model a sphinx and making their own papyrus, all of which is on display in the KS2 corridor.

We welcome new parents and carers, with children entering the school in September, to visit us Friday 19th April at 9:30am or 1:30pm. There are a maximum of 15 places for each slot and will be offered on on a first-come-first-served basis. Places can be booked via the school office.

Nursery have been enjoying our new Primary Knowledge Curriculum topic 'Dinosaurs'. The children absolutely love all the dinosaur-themed activities we’ve been doing so far. They helped create a wonderful dinosaur classroom display: using their cutting, glueing and sticking collage skills to make dinosaurs. There has been lots of creative artwork using dinosaur models to create dinosaur footprints and our Lego dinosaurs look fantastic. As always, the tuff tray is very popular for imaginative play!

We enjoyed birdwatching sessions last week, as part of RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, spotting the great variety of birds we are lucky enough to have in our woodland and around the school grounds. It was great fun using binoculars!

Big Schools’ Birdwatch 2024 25/01/2024

We are taking part in the RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch 2024. All the children will be spending some quiet time in outdoor classrooms learning to identify local birds and record what they see. This will help support RSPB and their research.

Families are invited to participate and upload photos to Dojo. For more information please visit:

Big Schools’ Birdwatch 2024 Big Schools’ Birdwatch is back for 2024! Join thousands of other schools to find out which birds visit your school grounds. Together, we can make it count.

All our enrichment clubs started last week, including Food Technology, Forest School and all the lunchtime and after school clubs offered by the teaching and support staff.

We look forward to sharing more information about the inter school sports opportunities and the class trips coming up this term, which have been planned to enhance the curriculum.

Thank you to everyone who came to support us at the Rocksteady concert and congratulations to all our bands - you were absolute rock stars! 🌟

We had a magical week last week!

🎄 The Fireside Nativity was wonderful; the children worked so hard preparing for the performance - well done everyone!

🎄 Our Christmas lunch was a lot of fun. A big thank you to our fantastic kitchen team for making it all happen!

These schools in Leighton Buzzard have been recognised for their sustainability efforts 05/12/2023

"We have had such a positive response to all things ecologically friendly here at DA, the children are very aware of the need to be 'Green' and their passion and enthusiasm is contagious! Last year, when our Year 4 class worked with me to achieve the Green Flag Award, we had 10 eco-councillors, now we have 41 - the future is bright! I fully agree that we need to look for opportunities to do all we can to live more sustainably and inspiring young people is a great beginning." Sarah Cavender, Head of School

We are delighted to announce we were joint winners of the local recycling competition run by Barratt David Wilson Homes and are now the proud owners of a new multi-coloured playground bench, made from recycled plastic. It will be a lovely addition to our playground!

Year 2 had a wonderful visit to the immersing themselves in Roman Britain. We started with a Market Workshop with all the children dressing up in tunics and learning the meaning of different cloths – purple & gold for the rich, checked material for Celts, plain coarse white fabric for slaves. Then we had a go at identifying different everyday objects and food that would have been used in Roman times.

After watching a short video, we had time to explore the exhibition and displays to see some of the real Roman items that were unearthed by archaeologists at Verulamium. We built an arch, wrote our names in Roman characters and admired the awesome mosaics. We then walked into the park to visit the Hypocaust (Roman central heating) and after lunch there was just enough time to walk over to the impressive Roman Theatre and imagine plays taking place there. It was certainly an action-packed day!

Year 1 and Year 4 had an amazing time at the Natural History Museum at Tring to tie in with their Primary Knowledge Curriculum Science topics 'Animals and their Needs' and 'Classification of Plants and Animals'. It’s a fantastic place with over 4,900 specimens ranging from polar bears and emperor penguins to dressed fleas. In the galleries there were so many animals to look at and drawers and cabinets to open and wonder at the contents.

🎄 Join us Friday 8th December for the DAPA Kids Fair! 🎄

Many congratulations to Mrs Blessing and our School Council for their work on the Children in Need sale, which was a great success - lots of fun and it raised £310 for this fantastic charity!

Our last remaining open morning will take place on Thursday 30th November at 9am. If you wish to attend, please email:

Last Friday our Team Captains had the opportunity to visit the war memorial for the town remembrance ceremony. They represented our school very well and it was a great opportunity to attend with so many of the schools from our community.

The Harvest Assembly was attended by so many families - we were a full house! Thank you for coming and sharing so generously. All your donations were very gratefully received by LLHS who came to meet with the Team Captains to tell them about the work they do and how the food will be shared with the community. Our captains are a true credit to the school.

Mrs Nourse’s Tuesday lunchtime activity club with Year 2 is proving very popular – recent activities include the parachute; a favourite session!
