It is always wonderful when ex-students return to update us on the exciting paths they have taken after Vandyke. We created our programme in 2020 to offer our current students a valuable insight into post-18 . A massive well done to our Y9 Girls team who achieved 2nd place in the County Basketball Finals recently, earning themselves some silverware. The girls played a total of four matches during the day, winning three and narrowly missing out on a fourth win by only 4 points. The performed incredibly well, demonstrating some amazing basketball and displaying excellent throughout the whole . Well done to you all.

We were delighted to welcome Elspeth Baecke, founder of the Smile Malawi charity, to school last week to present her with a cheque for £3,095 at a special assembly! The money was raised during the fantastic event last November, when 6th Form students arranged a range of activities, daily dress-up themes, donut sales, gigs, shows and a non-uniform day. The Y13 Senior Student Team were thrilled to hand the cheque to Elspeth and to hear all about the work of and the difference the money we’ve raised will make.

We’re delighted to announce that Holly G and Amelie BH were the winners, and framed copies of their photos will be displayed in the new show homes! Congratulations to them both – we’re looking forward to being able to pay a visit to the show home to see their work on display.
The Year 9 Boys A Team have progressed into the semi-final of the after an outstanding performance against a resilient Lincroft Academy. The wind and rain definitely made life difficult for both teams, but Vandyke took their chances in the first half, with coming from Jacob F and Niccolo M. The second half was all about maintaining composure and playing our game, which we did in fine fashion. We now await our opponents in the semi-final and begin our in the .
Our Y10 students recently paid a visit to Aylesbury College, to study the importance of the and to practice elements of . Students took part in a range of activities, including wearing heavy weighted vests to simulate living as an elderly person and goggles to replicate common eye problems such as and . Students also looked at ways to spot signs of and what to do if someone is . Finally, students practiced and how to use a on dummies who were experiencing cardiac arrests. A fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). 27th January is a key moment to reflect on the horrors of the Holocaust and marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, one of the most notorious concentration camps built by the N***s. The theme this year is 'Fragility of Freedom', and during last week and next, all main school students will have assemblies about HMD and how fragile freedom is for many people in our world today. Thank you to the history team for such thought-provoking assemblies.
In the recent National Schools Equestrian Association County Competition, the Vandyke Team qualified for the national finals! Taija, Amelie, Joanne and Harriet competed in both the 80 and 90cm events, finishing 2nd at 80cm and third at 90cm. As the highest placed school, the team now qualify to compete for Vandyke & Bedfordshire. Well done to all. Some wonderful riding - and lovely to see our Prime Minister in attendance! 😁
