New spaces opening after half term – Monday 23rd February. Online, Monday’s 7.30-8.30. £20 per week or £100 if book your block of 6 upfront.

If A-level Biology feels content-heavy, overwhelming, or exam answers never seem to score what you expect…
this group is designed to change that.

This small Monday evening A-level Biology tuition group is now opening limited spaces for:
✔️ Year 12
✔️ Year 13

📚 What we focus on (properly):
• Papers 1, 2 and 3
• All AO skills (AO1, AO2, AO3)
• Exam technique explicitly taught
• Synoptic thinking across topics
• The 25-mark essay (structure, planning, depth & examiner language)

This isn’t passive revision.
This is evidence-based teaching, active retrieval, and high-level feedback — the things that actually move grades.

Parents choose this group because:
✨ It’s taught by a fully qualified, experienced Biology teacher
✨ Groups are small (no hiding, no being left behind)
✨ Students build confidence and exam fluency
✨ Teaching is aligned to how A-level Biology is assessed, not just “covered”

Did you know some animals seem almost immune to cancer — even though they live for decades or centuries? 😮

A brand-new 2025 study published in BioScience analysed hundreds of turtles from 64 species — from tiny pond turtles to giant tortoises — and found that cancer is extremely rare in turtles. Even among long-lived, large species, fewer than ~1% showed signs of tumours, and no confirmed malignant cancers were reported in the sample.

Scientists think this might be because turtles have evolved powerful natural defences: enhanced DNA repair, resistance to cellular stress, slow metabolism and efficient protein maintenance — all of which reduce mutation risk over time.

🔬 What does this mean for humans — or for you studying Biology?

It challenges simple ideas that “more cells = more cancer risk”. Turtles disprove that link.

It shows how evolution, genetics and physiology interact to shape life-long health.

It’s a great example of how comparative biology can teach us about ageing, disease prevention and hope for future medical breakthroughs.

💭 What do you think: could learning from nature help us build better defences against cancer?

Why do women live longer than men? 🧬

A massive study of over 1,000 mammal and bird species has revealed that lifespan differences between s*xes aren’t just down to lifestyle — they’re written into our evolutionary biology.
From s*x chromosomes (XX vs XY, ZW vs ZZ) to mating systems and parental care, the research shows how evolutionary pressures shape how long we live.

But here’s the question for you 👇
💭 How much of the human lifespan gap is due to evolution vs lifestyle?
💭 Could understanding this help in medicine or public health?
💭 How do human mating systems compare to other animals?
This is perfect synoptic material for your AQA A-Level Biology Paper 3 essay — linking evolution, inheritance, adaptation and behaviour all in one!
