I hope you are all enjoying your holidays and finding time to relax 🎄🎄 Here’s a little post on some potential interview questions that can throw students off. It’s important to appreciate why the interviewers are asking these questions to tackle it best! Try asking your family members to put you on the spot and ask you some random questions and see how you do!! Being able to think and perform under pressure is such an important skill as a doctor. If you have had your interviews already let us know how they went! If they are in the new year best of luck (I hope our tips help) and if you haven’t heard anything don’t loose hope just yet! 💫 🎄🫶

With interview season in full swing here are some essentials to ensure you do prior to your interview! Just to stress these are the basics! Please remember to try and stay calm and be authentic (this is what they want to see!) doctors need to stay calm and work under pressure all the time so doing this will demonstrate an essential skill doctors need! You will need to do some more preparation for the different MMI stations you can get and similarly for panel interviews! We have lots of other posts with top tips for more detail! Good luck 🫶

Best of luck for those of you with upcoming interviews! Try and get as much practice as you can with family and friends in the run up to your interview so you can feel the most confident! Even if your incredibly nervous “fake it till you make it” and try and put on a confident demeanour as this is arguably one of the most important aspects of the interview. Remember managing nerves and stress is such a key part of being a doctor too so this is an insight for the interviewers as to how you would manage! If you don’t have any interviews yet don’t worry its still early so don’t loose hope! 🫶🫶🫶🫶

This topic in one way or another is almost guaranteed to come up in medical school interviews! So it’s really important you have reflected on your work experiences and had a think about how you would answer questions regarding it. If you haven’t been able to get medical work experience it’s okay! Talk about any volunteering, sports teams or school leadership roles like prefects as these show the skills that doctors. Make sure to watch shows like “24hrs in A&E” or “surgeons on the edge of life” and reflect on the skills of the doctors you see! There are also a few virtual work experiences - best of luck for to ur upcoming interviews 🥰

UCAS deadline for medicine was today so now the wait begins… I remember this being the hardest part of the application process but try and keep your head up and don’t loose hope! Teaching at medical schools across the UK differs however you should learn the same knowledge and skills in line with the GMC. If you are applying to medical school make sure you are familiar with their curriculum. In general the 5 years at medical school are split into “pre clinical” and “clinical” years. With UCAS applications coming round make sure you are really reflecting on why you want to study medicine. The career has so much to offer! Dive deep into your own personal motivation to be a doctor and what it is about yourself that you think makes you well suited! And make sure you make it specific to the role of doctors. Another “day in the life” series? Why not! This time we are following Dr Ethan Kavanagh as he goes home to Northern Ireland to develop himself outside of the training conveyor belt. This is an option many doctors now take as they look to pursue additional interests, work in other areas, test their own career aspirations or just enjoy the job! There are a lot of reasons to pursue these opportunities so we collared Ethan and asked him to give us a taste of his life as he shows us life as a Junior Doctor in an Emergency Department in Northern Ireland!
