Drum and Brass

The fiesta finale led by street beats at this years Big Brass Weekend was a fabulous way to end the festival. Members of the audience attended a workshop, being shown the basics of brass instruments, then they all came together to play. It was inspiring, as you can see!

What a wonderful time we had at the weekend at Cumbria's Big Brass Day. This day saw youngsters from across the country come together to play and have fun. If you have a young person interested in learning an instrument, get in touch!

Our open days are kicking off today. These are a great chance for parents to bring their kids along and to meet our young players, have a cup of tea and a chat about our various music groups across Cumbria. Come along and see what it's all about and start you kids musical journey.

Young players from our Tebay branch of Cumbria School of Brass got together and came up with this four point pledge outlining the core principles they wanted for their group. We think what they came up with is just perfect. Everyone signed the promise to stick to uphold these points.

Our very own Julie! What a fantastic post. Julie took part in the course last year and is very passionate about music. It’s a fabulous course too for anyone wanting to lead groups.

🎓 Meet Julie, the Drum and Brass director focused on the power of inclusive practice 🎓

Julie joined our Future Leaders’ Programme to strengthen her teaching methods, with a focus on developing group teaching approaches that would reduce the need for costly private lessons and make music learning more accessible.

The programme made an immediate difference in Julie’s practice, and since graduating from the course she’s introduced new ways of gathering feedback and injected youth voice into her planning and delivery.

Julie calls the Future Leaders’ Programme “the best thing that has happened in the brass band world in recent years” 🤩
