🌞 Heatwave Reminder for All Dog Owners 🌞
With temperatures soaring, it’s more important than ever to keep our dogs safe and cool. Heatstroke can happen fast even in the shade and many dogs won’t show signs until they’re already struggling.
A few essentials:
Fresh water always available — refill often, especially outdoors
Avoid midday walks — early morning or late evening only
Never leave dogs in cars — not even for a minute
Provide cool resting spots — fans, damp towels, shaded areas
Watch for heatstroke signs — excessive panting, drooling, wobbling, bright red gums
Let’s look out for our four‑legged family members. They rely on us to keep them safe.

🐾 Friday Facts: CEDs vs Top Gear!
Do we have any Top Gear fans here?
If so, you might remember seeing a team of Canadian Eskimo Dog sled dogs in action in the Top Gear Polar Special. Polar explorer Matty McNair and her incredible team of CEDs raced alongside Richard Hammond in an attempt to beat Jeremy Clarkson and James May who were travelling by motor vehicle to the 1996 position of the North Magnetic Pole in Canada.
They didn’t win the challenge, but they showed the world just how powerful, determined, and capable the CED truly is.
At 13:00 on 25 April 2007, both expeditions set out from Resolute.
On 2 May, it was confirmed that the Toyota Hilux had beaten the dog team but the CEDs absolutely won hearts.
A brilliant moment in TV history and a proud showcase of what these dogs were bred to do. ❄️🐺
❄️ Bonus Fact!
Some of the offspring from the Top Gear sled dogs later came to the UK, and that bloodline still continues today. If you’re curious, have a little look for Northwinds in your CED’s pedigree, it might just be there.
Happy Friday, CED lovers! 🐺❄️

🐾 Friday Fact: Understanding the CED Breed Standard
Did you know the Canadian Eskimo Dog has one of the oldest and most function‑driven breed standards in the Arctic world?
Every feature of the CED was shaped by survival, endurance, and partnership with Inuit communities.
Here are a few standout points from the breed standard:
Powerful Build — The CED is a naturally strong, athletic working dog built for pulling heavy loads over long distances. Their structure isn’t ornamental; it’s functional.
Distinctive Head — A broad skull, wedge‑shaped muzzle, and alert, pricked ears give the breed its iconic expression of readiness and intelligence.
Thick Arctic Coat — Their dense double coat isn’t just beautiful; it’s essential insulation against extreme cold, wind, and snow.
High Energy & Drive — The standard emphasises a bold, energetic temperament. These dogs were bred to work, think, and thrive in challenging conditions.
Natural Movement — A CED’s gait should be effortless and efficient, a powerful, brisk trot, reflecting the stamina needed for sledding and long‑distance travel.
The breed standard isn’t just a checklist — it’s a window into the history, purpose, and resilience of the Canadian Eskimo Dog.
Celebrating it helps us preserve the qualities that make this ancient working breed so extraordinary.
Happy Friday, CED lovers! 🐺❄️

🐾❄️ Friday Facts
In 2005, a team of explorers including Tom Avery and sponsored by The Barclays Capital Ultimate North Expedition set out to recreate the legendary journey of Robert Peary, who claimed to reach the North Pole on April 6th, 1909.
Their secret weapon?
A team of Canadian Eskimo Dogs from Matty McNair’s Northwinds Kennel, one of the world’s most respected female polar guides and explorers.
Travelling with sledges loaded only with the supplies Peary himself would have carried, the team pushed across the Arctic ice at extraordinary speed.
And in a remarkable moment of history repeating itself, they beat Peary’s recorded time by just 4 hours.
A modern expedition powered by one of the world’s oldest Arctic working breeds.
Happy Friday, CED lovers! 🐺❄️
