Thank you for being such a valued and integral part of Rathayatra
Leicester Rathayatra, bringing devotion, music, and celebration to the heart of England.
The vibrant festival began in Leicesterâs city centre, directly outside ISKCONâs Radha Madhava Temple on Granby Street, with the Deities of Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra carried out in a tumultuous pahandi ceremony.
The festival was inaugurated with a traditional dance performance by Leicester Girls Maher Raas Group, followed by a welcome address by Temple President Pradyumna Das with special guests including Shivani Raja MP, and Dr James Biddulph CEO of Avanti Schools Trust.
The colourful procession travelled from the city centre along Leicesterâs Golden Mile before arriving at Cossington Park, where thousands of visitors enjoyed an afternoon of family-friendly activities, including live cultural performances, mantra meditation, childrenâs entertainment.
Pradyumna Das, President of ISKCON Leicester, said:
âRathayatra brings together the best of ancient Indian culture and spirituality on one site, in one afternoon. This yearâs event is especially significant as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) marks its 60th anniversary, celebrating six decades since its inception in 1966. Our immense gratitude to Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who brought the spiritual heritage of ancient India to the West, making the worship of Jagannath popular and accessible throughout the world.â
