This page has been pretty quiet recently, but things aren't great with regards to this society.
Basically, I've finished uni, and as such I am no longer able to serve on the committee for the DMU Laser Tag Society.
I've been seeing this coming for some time. Student Union rules dictate that in order for a DMU society to retain its status as such, it needs four students to fill the core committee roles (Chairperson, Health and Safety Officer, Treasurer, and Secretary). Unfortunately, attendance was way down at the beginning of Term 2 in the 2019/20 academic year (before the pandemic). And with the bulk of the committee graduating that year, I knew we'd struggle to find people to fill the roles. I'd hoped an influx of new members in the next academic year would help, but Covid-19 threw a wrench into those plans. With lockdown, this society's weekly sessions just stopped happening, and no freshers' fair meant there was no way to properly promote the society.
So what happens now? Basically, I don't know. We're still appearing on the SU page listing student groups and societies, and there might be bye-elections in the new term for anybody willing to set it up anew. But with no committee, it's only a matter of time before we lose our official status as a DMU Society.

The Laser Tag Society needs people to serve on our committee as a Treasurer and as Health and Safety Officer. All societies are required to have filled the four core committee roles (Chairperson, Secretary, Health and Safety Officer, Treasurer), and if we do not, we lose our official status as a society within the SU.

TUESDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER we are reopening!
We’ve been working really hard to be Covid secure and can’t wait to have you guys back. We will be running at a reduced capacity with social distancing measures in place in our reception and arena, which means there will be loads more space to zap each other!
We have rearranged the layout of our reception and arena so the narrow areas and pathways now have a one way system. We have put regular cleaning procedures in place and also added plenty of sanitiser stations positioned all around Megazone. Disposable face masks will be available for customers upon request. We may be able to have some walk-ins but we strongly recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment.
We want to keep our customers and staff members safe so we will be carefully following government guidelines and continuously putting additional measures in place.
We are really looking forward to re-opening and can’t wait too see all of you again.

In response to announcements that DMU are planning to run the bulk of their lectures online, I'm petitioning them to reduce their fees for this.
If we can't access facilities or societies, we might as well be distance learning, like those courses offered by the Open University for two thirds the price.
Reduced fees for reduced services, I say:
