A Special Treat for Eid🌙
A big thank you to Mrs Derry and Miss Alam for kindly making beautiful celebration cakes for Eid!
These were shared with our Muslim students so they could enjoy a sweet treat as they celebrate this special time. Eid marks the end of a period where many have been fasting over the past four weeks, making it an especially meaningful occasion.
Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating!

Three Peaks Challenge in Support of ASPIRE Programme
On 5 - 6 June next year, eight of our members of staff will undertake the formidable National Three Peaks Challenge, aiming to summit the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within a 24-hour period.
The challenge will be led by Mr Harston and Mr Turner (who is the Coordinator of the ASPIRE Programme) and brings significant experience to the team, having previously competed as an Olympic swimmer. Drawing on skills developed at the highest level of sport - particularly endurance, determination and teamwork.
Joining the challenge are members of our Pastoral Team - Mr Taylor, Mr J Scrimshire, Mr L Scrimshire, Mr Bratt, Ms Sutton and our Headteacher, Mr Bennett all of whom will tackle Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in a test of physical stamina, mental resilience and collective effort. The challenge involves extensive travel, steep ascents and minimal rest, making it a true test of commitment and teamwork.
The team is taking on this challenge to raise vital funds for the ASPIRE Programme. ASPIRE plays a key role in enriching students’ educational experiences by offering a wide range of after-school clubs. These opportunities help to broaden students’ horizons, develop confidence and resilience and encourage participation beyond the classroom.
Mr Turner highlighted the importance of ASPIRE, stating:
“Enabling students to try new activities and have opportunities to participate in sports after school can make a life-changing difference to students who otherwise might not be able to access after-school activities.”
The Pastoral Team is inviting the school community, local partners and supporters to sponsor their Three Peaks Challenge. Every contribution will directly support the ASPIRE Programme and help create lasting, positive impact for our students.
The team would like to thank everyone in advance for their encouragement and generosity as they prepare for this significant challenge. To make a donation please follow this link - https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/pastoral-3-peak-challenge

Inspiring confidence through public speaking!
Yesterday a group of our Year 10 students took part in an exciting workshop hosted by The Speakers Trust. The students threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and determination. It was fantastic to see how engaged they were throughout the day, and even more amazing to witness the progress they made - growing in confidence, creativity and delivery.
By the end of the workshop, every student delivered a speech. Six of the group will move forward to the Speak Out Challenge where they will present their speeches in an upcoming assembly, where one finalist will be chosen to represent the school at the regional finals.
This opportunity not only supports preparation for GCSE Speaking and Listening assessments, but also helps develop vital lifelong skills in communication, public speaking and writing.
A huge well done to all students involved - you should be incredibly proud!

Violent clips, online conflicts and shock-value challenges can spread rapidly across social media platforms. Many young people are exposed to this content through algorithms or messaging groups, even when they were not actively searching for it.
Our latest guide explores how viral trends can encourage risky behaviour, normalise violence and create anxiety or fear within communities.
The guide also highlights:
• The emotional and legal risks of sharing violent content
• How social media algorithms amplify harmful material
• Practical advice for parents and educators
Download the guide and support safer online conversations with young people:

Year 11 Parents’ Evening – Thursday 26th March
We would like to invite all parents and carers of Year 11 students to attend our Year 11 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 26th March. This is an important opportunity to speak directly with your child’s teachers and receive feedback on how they are performing across their subjects. The results from the most recent round of trial exams will also be available to discuss during the evening.
We strongly encourage all parents and carers to attend. Research shows that students perform, on average, 1–2 grades higher in their exams when parents attend Year 11 parents’ evenings and discuss progress, revision strategies, and targets with teachers.
The evening will give you valuable insight into:
- Your child’s current progress
- The best revision strategies to support them at home
- Key targets to help them improve before their GCSE exams
Year 11 is a crucial year, and this is the perfect opportunity to work together to ensure your child has the support they need to achieve the GCSE grades they deserve and secure a place on their chosen college course, sixth form, or apprenticeship. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 26th March and working together to give your child every possible chance to succeed in their GCSE exams in May/June 2026. To book your place please refer to the email that has been sent to parents and carers.

Red Nose Day
On Friday we will be raising money for Red Nose Day, organised by the UK charity Comic Relief, it is a nationwide fundraising event that uses the power of comedy to help people facing poverty, hunger and injustice both in the UK and globally.
Students can wear one item of red clothing with their school uniform.
This is NOT a non-uniform day and students should still bring all their equipment and wear their lanyard.
There will also be a bake sale at break time on Thursday. If you are able to bring some cakes to sell it would be much appreciated, and if not please bring some money to buy cakes and support this amazing charity.

Eating in the Canteen This Week 🍴
Here’s this week’s menu for students who are eating in the canteen. Please ensure your child’s iPay account is topped up in advance.
Students on Free School Meals (FSM) are entitled to a lunch with either a drink or a pudding. They will only need additional funds on their account if they would like extra items or food at breaktime.
All students can get a free breakfast before school too.
