This week a group of year 7's had the opportunity to visit De Montfort University. To explore a little about what University life is like. The group participated in team building exercises and had a fantastic tour of the campus.

On Tuesday this week Year 8 students attended the Dell "Big Idea" workshop led by the Talent Foundry, which successfully brought them together as a team to tackle a real-world social issue and map out a concrete plan to solve it. To sharpen their communication skills, students were challenged to craft a compelling elevator pitch for their ideas.

As a fun, low-stakes practice run, the teams were given bizarre tasks: they had to pitch impossible products, like selling a chocolate teapot and marketing a holiday to a rubbish dump. By forcing them to accentuate the positives of these absurd scenarios, the dry run proved incredibly useful when it came time to sell their actual social impact ideas.

The final test came when presenting in front of almost 50 of their peers. The true victory was seeing how remarkably others picked up the ball and ran with it, delivering passionate, creative pitches. Quite a few of our Year 8 students went home really proud on Tuesday.

Our Year 8 Leadership School Action Group spent a wonderful afternoon at Charnwood Care Home as part of their project to help reduce loneliness. The girls played Play Your Cards Right, enjoyed throwing and catching games, and even got competitive with dominos! It was fantastic to see our pupils chatting, laughing, and building connections with the residents. Well done, girls – you made us proud.

Area Athletics at Pingles! Our fantastic Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 pupils represented Heath Lane Academy at the Area Athletics competition at the Pingles Athletics Track on Tuesday 19th June. 🌦️ Despite the weather, their determination and team spirit were unstoppable as they competed against other schools in a range of track and field events — finishing with some thrilling relay races!

👏 A huge well done to everyone who took part — you made us proud! 🥇 Special congratulations to Rhys (Year 9) Travis (Year9) and Chloe (Year 7), who won their events and will now go on to represent us at the County-level competition after half term. Good luck to all of you! 🌟
