Here is our wonderful singing for fun choir performing at a recent charity fundraiser for Parkinson’s. We come together every Thursday at Earl Shilton Methodist church hall 7:15-8:15pm. We just sing for fun and reap all the health benefits singing has to offer. A lovely group of people! They sang so beautifully and over the years we have all become a little family. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to be part of our little community. No singing experience needed. We just have fun 🤩

Mind over music offers singing therapy to young people in and out of school. Sessions are taught by Miss Kathryn, a professional singer who holds a BA joint honours degree in musical theatre and drama. She is a fully qualified teacher (QTS) who is trained in counseling (NCFE level 2 in counseling skills). The sole aim of Mind over music singing therapy is to build confidence and self-esteem in a safe, fun space where children can open up and discuss their thoughts, feelings and struggles. It allows pupils to enjoy something that they have an interest in whilst building a positive helping relationship with their therapist. Miss Kathryn uses specific songs and activities that relate to each individual child's feelings, emotions and struggles. Relatable song lyrics help pupils to connect to the song, express what they are feeling through the song and it stimulates great discussion about a topic close to them without the pressure of talking about themselves directly. Students will learn breathing and vocal techniques and a wide range of songs. Students will be given opportunities to perform to an audience, explore songwriting and undertake exams if they wish. These sessions are a wonderful mix of vocal coaching and counselling. Kathryn uses a wide range of therapy techniques during sessions such as Psychodynamic, interpersonal and CBT. These sessions are ideal for young people who are having difficulties managing their feelings and emotions, have low self esteem or a lack of confidence. These sessions are also helpful for children who have experienced trauma in the past or present or who are going through a tricky time or major change in their life.
Throughout time singing has played an important role in people’s lives. The human voice has accompanied us in our everyday tasks as well as in our quest for a deeper connection to ourselves and the world. Much research is being done on the physical, emotional and psychological effects of singing. Scientific evidence shows that singing influences many activities that are vital for our well-being.
