🌍Today is International Day of Play & we’re celebrating the power of play in all its joyful, messy, creative, calming, and confidence-boosting forms because it is never, ever JUST PLAY. It’s how we learn, connect, express, and grow.

🌈At Rainbow Learning and Wellbeing we truly believe in play that is:

❤️Child-led and open-ended
💛Grounded in connection, curiosity, and co-regulation
💚A safe space for having a go and making mistakes
💙Valid and valuable for every age and stage

💜As a holistic, neuroinclusive setting, we see daily how play helps children process the world, build relationships, and discover who they are at their own pace, in their own way. So today, let’s honour play the vital and fundamental part of childhood (and life) that it is.

🌈Check out just some of the many, many photos of our play-based approach to learning and wellbeing.

🏳️‍🌈Here at Rainbow Learning and Wellbeing we wear our rainbows with pride every day and don't just say we're inclusive, but show it!

🤝Every perfectly imperfect, unique and wonderful child and young person that walks through our door is treated as the incredible human being that they are.

🌈By nurturing connection and fostering strong relationships we create a culture of kindness and compassion in which everyone can feel seen, heard and understood so that they can thrive.

💭We think the world needs a little bit more of that right now 🌏

❓️As half term draws to a close, how would you sum up your week in five words or less?

💬Mine would be: Rest, family, gardening, fun, hot!

☀️Here's a couple of pictures from a very chilled out week in which I switched off and took some time to relax and do the things I enjoy most.

🌈We will be back for the final half term of this academic year tomorrow. Hopefully my brain will be back up to speed within 3 working days 😉

Department for Education are at it again 🤦🏼‍♀️

More tone deaf nonsense, so this time I left them a comment. Here's what I said:

💬"Please. Read. The. Room.

After the GC debacle and now this, I feel it might need spelling out to whoever is commissioning this rubbish. So hear goes... This type of social media campaign is totally inappropriate for a government department charged with the education of children and young people in this country. Aldi, Dominoes? Yes. Department for Education No.

If we had an incredible education system where all children's educational, social and emotional needs were being met- go ahead, knock yourself out. I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid. But we don't. Our education system is broken, our teachers are leaving in their droves due to excessive workload and burnout and many of our children and young people (particularly those with SEND/ neurodivergence) are disengaged at best and suffering at worst.

As parents and educators, we want to hear what meaningful changes you are planning to help and support our children. Perhaps you could start there? Until then, please, please drop this ridiculous campaign. It is benefitting no-one and angering most of us.

Seriously, just stop it."

🎉It's Friday & the start of Half Term!

🦆From 1-9 on the duck scale, how are you feeling heading into the sunny bank holiday weekend? ☀️

ℹ️Don't forget, we are closed for all sessions next week as we take some time to relax, recharge and prepare for the final half term of this academic year.

🌈Whetever you are up to, have a fantastic week.

🌈For some of our Year 11s, today is the end of an era. The last day of school. 12 years gone in the blink of eye. A day of mixed emotions. A day to reflect on the many ups and downs throughout the years, not least the small matter of a global pandemic and the lockdowns, home schooling, virtual classrooms and bubbles that came with it. And a day, of course, to celebrate 🥳

💪So, for everyone finishing today, take the next step knowing that you are strong, confident and resilient and that you can handle whatever life throws your way. And for those with a couple of weeks left- hang in there, its almost your time!

🥂And for the parents of these incredible young people, give yourself credit for the part that you have played in getting them here.

In nearly 8 years of running this business, I’ve tried to keep things fairly neutral on this page and I definitely don't do politics. If you live with RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria), you’ll know exactly why. Putting your head above the parapet is terrifying!

But today, my passion as an educator has officially overridden my fear.

Anyone who knows me or has worked with us at Rainbow Learning and Wellbeing knows that I am fiercely passionate about advocating for ALL children, especially those with SEND. I see the firsthand struggles, the systemic hurdles, and the absolute heartache that parents and children go through just to be seen, let alone to access the education they rightfully deserve.

But the videos released by the Department for Education over the last 24 hours have left me completely baffled and frustrated. As a neurodivergent person myself, I am at a total loss. The videos play out like some bizarre fever dream, and the more I watch, the worse it gets.

For many children, it is not as simple as sit still, and learn.

Parents of SEND children are already on their knees. They are feeling lost, hopeless, and forgotten by the very system meant to support them. This latest campaign doesn't just miss the mark, it feels like a step backward for every family fighting for proper representation and support.

Come on Bridget Phillipson, our children deserve so much better than this.

To the parents in our community who are feeling deflated or invisible today: I see you, I hear you, and I can personally promise you that Rainbow Learning and Wellbeing will always be a space where your children are truly understood 🌈

👋🏻We have had lots of new followers recently, so I thought it would be a good time for a reintroduction.

🌈Rainbow Learning and Wellbeing is the brain-child of Laura (that's me!); a highly experienced teacher with a passion for holistic, neuro-inclusive learning. Since starting out in 2018, Rainbow Learning and Wellbeing has evolved and grown into a hub of services for children, young people, parents, teachers & professionals across Leicestershire and beyond.

🌈What we do:

We are now a team of like- minded, passionate tutors providing a wide range of services that put wellbeing at the heart of learning. This includes private one to one & group academic learning and wellbeing sessions; school- based sessions; home Ed sessions; alternative provision (EOTAS); training and consultancy and so much more.

🌈What makes us unique:

Every aspect of the sessions we deliver, the interactions we have with children & adults and our beautiful learning space in Whetstone is carefully considered to have the most positive impact on learning and wellbeing. We never underestimate the value and importance of developing strong relationships and focus on building positivity, confidence, resilience & self- esteem and nurturing children as individuals in order to help them shine.

📅As we race towards the end of another busy academic year, we are already starting to plan for September. If you would be interested in working with us please get in touch. Our door is always open and we are always happy to arrange a cuppa and a chat.
