🌖 DON’T MISS IT, LEICESTER! A massive solar eclipse is happening this Wednesday, 12th August!

​The Moon is going to bite off over 91% of the Sun, giving us our deepest eclipse since 1999! Here is everything you need to know to catch it in Leicester:

​⏰ Leicester Timings (approx) (Wednesday, 12 Aug)

​6:15 PM: The eclipse begins — the Moon starts creeping across the Sun.

​7:11 PM: PEAK ECLIPSE! The Sun will be reduced to a sliver crescent, and the sky will visibly dim.

​8:05 PM: The Moon leaves the Sun's edge and the eclipse wraps up.

​📍 Where to Look

​The Sun will be low in the evening sky, so head to an open spot (like Bradgate Park, Victoria Park, or any open field) with a clear, unobstructed view towards the West / West-Northwest.

​👓 What Glasses Should You Wear?

​⚠️ REGULAR SUNGLASSES ARE NOT SAFE! Even dark or polarized sunglasses do not filter out harmful infrared and ultraviolet rays. Looking at a partial eclipse without proper protection can cause permanent eye damage.

​Use ISO 12312-2 Certified Solar Eclipse Glasses: Look specifically for the ISO 12312-2 standard printed on the frame or packaging.

​Check for Damage: Make sure the lenses aren't scratched, creased, or torn before putting them on.

​Welding Helmets: Only Shade 14 glass is safe.

​No Glasses? Make a DIY pinhole projector using two pieces of card, or view the shadow through a kitchen colander onto the ground!

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we wrapped up the academic year, some of our students were given medical letters to bring home, along with a text message asking you to complete an important form and return it to us over the summer holidays.

It is vital that we receive this information back from you before the start of the new academic year. Please drop the completed form into our main reception at some point over the next few weeks.

For those parents and carers whose child was not in school on the last day of term, a form will be posted out to your home address for you to complete and return.

Just a quick final reminder that this Wednesday, 5th August, we are hosting our Uniform Pop-Up Shop right here at The Herewoode Academy, in association with Schoolwear Solutions!

Whether you are joining us for the very first time or returning for the new academic year, parents and carers of all year groups are welcome to come along and purchase school uniforms.

​It has been an absolutely amazing World Cup, and last night... wow! What a performance against a world-class French team. Every single player left everything out on that pitch. 🙌

​While we all dreamed of finally seeing it "Coming Home," this is just the beginning. Securing 3rd place is our best result in a World Cup since 1966, and that is something to be immensely proud of! 🥉

​Heads held high, boys. The journey doesn't stop here. This is a massive foundation to build on. Next stop: Euro 2028! 🏆⚽
