Can you identify which pupils have achieved each national curriculum swimming outcome?

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils should be able to:

1️⃣ Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over at least 25 metres.
2️⃣ Use a range of strokes effectively.
3️⃣ Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

These are three distinct outcomes. A child who can travel 25 metres has not automatically demonstrated effective strokes or safe self-rescue.

A strong assessment process should show:

- where each pupil started;
- the progress made during the programme;
- which individual outcomes they achieved; and
- who needs another opportunity or targeted support.

Schools should also retain swimming attainment from Years 3–5 so they have reliable information available for Year 6 reporting and planning.

Swim:ED completes baseline and exit assessments and provides pupil-level reporting, helping schools understand progress rather than simply confirm that lessons took place.

The best review of a holiday camp?

“Can I go again tomorrow?” ❤️

That is what we want children to feel after a day at Fiesta.

Not because they spent every minute doing one sport, but because their day had variety, choice, challenge, laughter and chances to try something new.

They might arrive feeling a little unsure. Then suddenly they are part of a team, learning a new game, building something, getting messy with an activity, laughing with another child or proudly showing you what they achieved.

That is the experience we are trying to create: an active holiday camp children genuinely look forward to.

OCTOBER HALF TERM BOOKINGS OPEN - SAVE 10%

October Half Term just got a lot more exciting!

Bookings are officially OPEN for Fiesta Active Holiday Camp at Loatlands Primary School, running 19th-30th October.

This is not about keeping children occupied for a few hours. We want to give them a school holiday they actually get excited about. Think Ghostbusters Dodgeball, slime making, Lego challenges, archery, potion making, mini Halloween movie creation, sports, games, crafts, challenges and much more.

Whether your child loves sport, creating, competing, exploring or simply having fun with friends, the programme is built around variety.

For parents: flexible half-day, standard, extended and full-day options are available, with full days running 8:00am-5:30pm.

Fiesta is Ofsted registered.

We’re so excited to be at Manor Drive Primary Academy and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with their children over the next few weeks! 🏊‍♂️💦

There’s something pretty special about watching a swimming pool arrive on a school playground and seeing the excitement and curiosity it creates across the school!

Our Fiesta Swim:ED pop-up pools are designed to make swimming more accessible by bringing the pool directly to schools, helping more children develop their confidence and swimming ability without the barriers that can sometimes come with travelling to a traditional pool.

But it’s about more than just learning to swim. Water safety is a vital life skill, and we’re passionate about giving children the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to stay safer in and around water.

We’re incredibly proud to be working alongside the team at Manor Drive Primary Academy and can’t wait to see the children get in, get swimming and discover what they can achieve over the coming weeks! 💙

Is your school swimming programme accessible—or are pupils expected to fit the programme?

For some children with SEND, the barriers begin before they reach the water.

The coach journey may be unfamiliar. The leisure centre may be busy and noisy. Shared changing spaces can feel overwhelming. A large group and fixed timetable may leave little room for a child who needs more time.

Before a swimming block begins, schools could consider:

✅ sharing photographs or a visual sequence of what will happen;
✅ arranging a familiarisation visit;
✅ identifying sensory and communication needs;
✅ considering smaller groups or a gradual introduction; and
✅ reviewing whether changing arrangements are creating a barrier.

Our on-site Swim:ED model provides greater flexibility. Pupils can visit the pool in advance, work in smaller groups where appropriate and use adaptable changing arrangements, including an individual changing pod when needed.

Inclusion is not just about offering every child the same lesson. It is about giving every child a meaningful opportunity to feel safe, participate and progress.

Does attendance change on swimming days?

When a child regularly misses school swimming, it can be tempting to assume that they simply do not want to take part. But the real reason may be much more complex.

They might be worried about:

- travelling away from school;
- changing in front of other children;
- body confidence;
- entering deep water;
- noise or busy communal spaces; or
- not being able to keep up with their peers.

One practical tip is to look separately at pupils who are absent from school and those who attend but do not enter the water. These are different barriers and may need different support.

Early conversations with children and families can make a real difference. A visit to the pool, meeting the swimming team, seeing the changing arrangements or agreeing a smaller first step can help reduce uncertainty.

With an on-site Swim:ED pool, children remain in a familiar school environment and can be introduced to swimming more gradually.
