Stimulating writing through interest is an excellent way to get the creative juices running. Encouraging and coaxing ideas through communication can be fun.

Reading is the gift that keeps giving.

I am proud of my tutee's progress over the last two months in reading and phonics. Lots of phonics games, reading and practice at their own pace. From struggling at phase 1 to starting phase 3. Most importantly, her confidence has built up so she has started writing short phases.

Building on small steps is an important part of securing mathematical concepts.
Using concrete objects, and physical representations of them, can help children build a better understanding of numbers and the real world.

Put that jar of loose coins to use. Challenge your child to work out which coins you have in your hand/pot/purse.
"I have 5 coins in my hand that total 26p, what coins are they?"
"I have 5 coins, two are the same, the total is £1.43"
Easy to adapt with less coins, or coins of lower value or more coins! Children can have there own little stack to support them practically.

Everyone has a pack of playing cards at home. Fish them out from the back of the cupboard and dust them of ready to play. It does not even matter if some of the cards are missing.
Play 21 (or adapt to 12 with only Aces to 5 cards). Adding small numbers mentally and understanding probability.
Play your cards right! (ask your parents if you are not sure!)
Pull out some cards and ask your child to make the largest/smallest number possible, odd/even, a number between X and Y, a number more/less than X. How many numbers can you make?
