Yesterday, 16th September, three of our students and a member of staff attended the Inclusive by Design Conference at Leicester Racecourse, organised by the Leicester and Leicestershire Business and Skills Partnership (LLBSP) Careers Hub Team.

The event brought together local businesses to explore how they can create more inclusive and equitable workplaces. Through training sessions and information sharing, attendees learned about accessible recruitment practices, building confidence in working with diverse customer groups, and ensuring greater equity for employees - working towards an Inclusive Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students Dominik, Ishan and Lucas to explain to the attendees how they had benefitted from the various work experience opportunities and projects accessed through school. We are incredibly proud of how they represented our school throughout the day.

🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You from West Gate School 🌟

We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to The Leicestershire Law Society for their kind donation of £400, and to SPS Technologies for their fantastic fundraising contribution of £750.

The funds raised by SPS Technologies included generous employee donations in support of "Noor's Warriors", helping to champion the inspirational Noor's Wolf Run Challenge.

For those who may not know, Noor is a pupil at West Gate School. As a young person with special educational needs, taking part in the Wolf Run was a tremendous personal challenge. With the unwavering support of her family, Noor showed incredible courage, determination and resilience to complete the event while raising funds for our school charity, the Friends of West Gate Association.

We are delighted to share that Noor and her family have raised an amazing £3,660, a cheque of £750 to Friends of West Gate Association, £750 by SPS Technologies included generous employee donations plus £527.50 in Gift Aid, bringing the total raised to £4,937.50

These donations, together with the continued support of our community and ongoing fundraising efforts, will help us achieve our goal of purchasing new outdoor play equipment for our pupils, creating more opportunities for play, development and enjoyment.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, fundraised, shared our campaign and cheered Noor on along the way. Your generosity is making a real difference to the lives of our pupils.

🚤 What a fantastic day out for our students on a narrowboat trip, kindly funded by The Baldwin Trust. Thank you to The Baldwin Trust for making this wonderful experience possible.

Our students had the opportunity to get hands-on by steering the boat, helping to open the locks, and learning all about life on the waterways. It was a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, teamwork, and life skills while having lots of fun!

A huge thank you as well to Stewart, Mark, and Derek, whose support, guidance, and enthusiasm helped make the day so memorable. We really appreciate everything you did to look after us.

📢 Construction Site Visit with Morro Partnerships 🏗️
As part of our careers programme with Morro Partnerships, we had the exciting opportunity to visit a live construction site.

During the visit, we learned about the wide range of jobs available in the construction industry and asked questions about the skills, qualifications, and training needed for different roles. We also saw houses at various stages of construction and had the chance to go inside a property that was still being built, giving us a fascinating insight into the building process.
One of the highlights of the day was getting the opportunity to sit in a digger! 🚜

A huge thank you to Morro Partnerships for such an informative and enjoyable experience. We learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed our day.

Unfortunately, due to the high temperatures we are currently experiencing, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel Westival. ☹ While we are disappointed not to be able to come together for this event, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, families and staff must come first.

The good news is that we will still be continuing with our fantastic raffle, as we remain committed to raising funds for our new outdoor play equipment — something we are really excited about for the children. Raffle tickets are still available at £1 per strip, and we would greatly appreciate your continued support.

We are extending the raffle draw, which will now take place on the last day of term (hopefully in much cooler conditions!), giving everyone a little more time to take part.

📣📣🎭Welcome to our next 'Sensory Theatre' and come on a journey with us to ancient Egypt!
Linked to this term's whole school theme 'Can You Dig It', pupils have the opportunity to explore the space and find the treasure, build the pyramid and (if they are brave) open the sarcophagus to reveal the mummy. With lighting, scents, music and materials to touch, our Horizons pathway staff have collaborated to create another fantastic sensory space, where our pupils can join in with a sensory story or simply explore the calming environment👏👏

📢 Puzzled 2026 – What a fantastic event! 🧩
A big thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for our annual maths problem-solving event, Puzzled, on Thursday.

It was wonderful to see so many of you there supporting the children.
As always, we were proud to celebrate maths in an inclusive way. Alongside traditional problem-solving, the children enjoyed:

🌲 Forest School Fun! 🌲
A huge thank‑you to Morro Partnerships for donating so many amazing resources for our Forest School sessions! 🙌

Our pupils used brilliant teamwork to sort everything, and then put their problem‑solving skills to the test to create something new.

What started as a train track quickly transformed into a balance‑beam obstacle course! 🚂➡️🌳
We loved seeing everyone’s creativity shine! ✨
