We’re reminding learner drivers about unofficial apps and scams
As you know, since 12 May 2026, only learner drivers have been allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a car driving test.
The new terms and conditions for the booking service mean that learner drivers are not allowed to:
use unofficial apps, websites or services that scan the driving test booking service looking for appointments
give someone else their details so they can book a car driving test for them
We’re reminding learner drivers
We’re emailing learner drivers to remind them to stop using any apps or tools that search for driving tests for them. They must only use GOV.UK to manage their booking.
We’re reminding them that if they use an app or tool that searches for driving tests, we will:
suspend their ability to manage their test online – they will then only be able to make changes or book a new test by phone
cancel their booking
Our top priority is making the system fairer for all learners.
We are continuously monitoring activity and where misuse is clearly identified – including cases where a learner has not legitimately booked their test or where our terms and conditions are breached – we will take appropriate action, up to and including cancellation of the test.
We’re also reminding learners about the dangers of trying to book or get an earlier test through anyone on social media.
Help us get the message to your pupils
Please remind your pupils of 3 simple things:
do not use unofficial apps or websites to find or book a test slot
do not book a test through anyone on social media
only ever use GOV.UK – it is free and secure
We’ve published guidance for your pupils about this.
Find out more about the risks of unofficial driving test booking services and social media scams.
Thank you for your continued support in helping to make the system fairer for every learner.

🚨From 9 June, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.
If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:
✅ any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked
✅ the test centre you first booked at on that current booking
If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at on 9 June – not where you first booked.

From today, there will be more changes for learner drivers.
Only you can book or manage your car driving test. This means your driving instructor won’t be allowed to book it for you.

Daytime running lights are exactly that – to make yourself visible on the road during the daytime. 🚗
They’re too bright for night driving and don’t light the back of your car.
So SWITCH YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON when it’s getting dark, unless yours are automated.
Check your car’s manual to see if they are.
And read Rule 113 of the Highway Code in case you’ve forgotten how they work 📖

When driving you should give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders plenty of space - they may need to avoid obstacles such as wet or icy patches on the road. 🌧️
Pay close attention to any sudden change of direction they may have to make and give them enough room.
