Our seasonal bakes begin with Apple Flapjack.. 🍏🍎

The children have been busy using their imaginations in our kitchen area, pretending to create delicious apple cakes inspired by a story we have been exploring together. 📖

So, this week, we took our learning outdoors and, while enjoying the sunshine, the children had the opportunity to make their very own Apple flapjack to enjoy. 🍎🥣✨ We then enjoy an apple flapjack inspired playdough invitation afterwards!

We continue the seasonal painting invitation outside during the afternoon this time making our own mud paint! 🤎 The children mix mud, leaves, alongside seasonal spices! We also explore old Sunflower heads delicately using tweezers to release the sunflower seeds adding them to our collaborative nature masterpiece! 🌻

🍂📚 Autumn books – an invitation to explore, wonder and discover 📚🍁
As the seasons change, we’ve been adding a collection of Autumn themed books to our environment, creating a simple invitation for children to pause, explore and follow their own curiosities.
Our books sit alongside natural treasures such as leaves, conkers, pinecones and twigs, encouraging children to make connections between the stories they hear and the world around them. 🍃
Through carefully chosen books and open ended invitations, children can explore new vocabulary, share their ideas, notice changes in nature and develop a love of stories and learning.

We thought you would all like to see how the children have enjoyed Harriet’s art invitation this morning.. 🍂🍁 Plenty of transformational play mixing spices and textures whilst also adding paint to natural items such as pumpkins and leaves.. 🎃 The room smelt delightful really giving us the Autumnal feeling🍂🧡

🍂 Seasonal Playdough 🍂

With the Autumn equinox arriving this week, we’ve been adapting our playdough space to celebrate the changing season, adding a beautiful collection of natural loose parts for the children to explore. 🌿🍁

This morning, one of our friends brought in a little bag of pinecones and leaves to share with everyone. They quickly became part of our playdough exploration as the children used them to create prints, patterns and arrangements noticing the different shapes, textures and details found in nature. 🤎

A lovely example of how children’s interests and contributions can inspire our environment and lead to meaningful, open-ended play.

With the upcoming arrival of a new season, we’ve added a variety of wonderful natural treasures to our play, from conkers and crunchy leaves to pinecones and twigs. 🍁🌰🌲

The children have enjoyed pouring, mixing, stirring, squashing and patting creating their very own delicious looking natural concoctions!

It’s been a wonderful opportunity for imaginative play, sensory exploration and exploring the texture and feel of the natural materials 🍁

We’ve created a larger space in one of our group rooms dedicated to tinkering, sorting and posting!
The children have been enjoying opening and matching our sorting dolls, while also experimenting with loose parts and discovering how they fit into our different trinket boxes.
There are so many opportunities for developing problem solving skills, hand eye coordination, fine motor skills and curiosity through this open ended play.

Whisking away making bubble tea.. 🫧☕️🧋
We’ve noticed the children have been showing a growing interest in using whisks in our home corner, so we’ve introduced manual whisks to explore as they create their very own bubble recipes! Such bubbly fun!
