To all of the wonderful teachers we’ve had the privilege of working with this year… thank you.

As another incredible school year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to express our thanks to every teacher who invited Historic Workshops into their classroom.

Together, we’ve created unforgettable learning experiences for tens of thousands of children across the UK. Whether we travelled back to the Stone Age, marched with the Romans, explored Ancient Egypt, stood in the trenches of the First World War, or experienced life during the Blitz, every workshop was made possible because of your enthusiasm, organisation and commitment to giving your pupils the very best (by booking the very best 😉)

This year has been particularly special. For the tenth consecutive year, Historic Workshops has delivered more workshops than the year before. We see that as a reflection of the trust schools continue to place in us, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.

We are already looking forward to the next academic year and can’t wait to return to many of the fantastic schools we’ve worked with this year, while welcoming plenty of new ones along the way.

Until then, we hope you all have a truly well-deserved, relaxing and enjoyable summer break. Thank you once again for making this another unforgettable year.

The Historic Workshops Team

P.S. Don’t forget to book your workshop(s) for next year before you throw your laptop into the corner of the room! 👌

The Teacher Who Waited Too Long…

Mrs Thompson could almost taste the freedom.

The final week of term had arrived. Displays were coming down, desks were being tidied, and the countdown to six glorious weeks of summer had begun.

She had survived Sports Day.

She had survived reports.

There was just one thing left on her mental to-do list…

“Book the Roman workshop for next year.”

“I’ll do it tomorrow,” she thought.

Tomorrow became the last day of term.

The last day became the first day of the holidays.

The first day became a family holiday.

The family holiday became decorating the spare room.

Before she knew it, September had arrived.

As the children excitedly filed into class, Mrs Thompson proudly unveiled her long-term plan.

Then she reached the Romans unit.

Her smile disappeared.

Her heart sank.

The colour drained from her face.

She had forgotten to book her history workshop.

With trembling hands, she opened the Historic Workshops website and clicked on the booking system.

Surely there would still be a few dates left…

No availability.

October? Full.

November? Full.

December? Full.

Every date she needed had already been snapped up by organised teachers who had booked before the summer.

She stared silently at the screen.

The children looked up.

“Miss… are we still having a real Roman soldier visit?”

Mrs Thompson whispered the only words she could.

“I… I left it too late.”

That evening, she made herself a promise.

Never again.

The very next time bookings opened, she secured every history workshop she needed for the following academic year.

She never experienced that feeling of panic again.

The moral of the story?

Don’t be Mrs Thompson.

Thousands of teachers now book their workshops months in advance, and many of our most popular dates disappear before the summer holidays even begin. We have had over 200 bookings come in already for 2026-27!

If you already know you’ll be teaching history next year, book now and enjoy your summer knowing it’s one less thing to worry about.

Historic Workshops is the UK’s No.1 history workshop provider, delivering inspiring, curriculum-linked workshops to schools across the country. Secure your preferred date before someone else does.

David performing one of his winning routines 🕺

We are so proud of David for placing first in both Latin (Jive) and Ballroom (Tango) at the NATD Ballroom and Latin Medallist of the Year Grand Final in Blackpool! 🏆 🎉 🥳

He is now No.1 in the country for those disciplines for the 22-34 age group at grade Silver!

An incredible achievement, especially for someone who has only been dancing for a couple of years!

Well done David! 🕺

One of our most-booked workshop leaders, Rob, has been a medieval reenactor for many years. He doesn’t just live in the past though…he also enjoys watching football! ⚽️ Especially when it’s a ‘battle reenactment’ England vs Norway!

Rob and his reenactment mates sat under a medieval canvas, huddled around an iPad, to watch the spectacle.

🤔 If you could add just one extra half-term to the primary history curriculum, which period would you choose?

🪨 Stone Age
🏺 Ancient Egypt
🛡️ Romans
⚔️ Vikings
👑 Tudors
🪖 WW1
🌍 Another period entirely?

We’d love to hear why you chose it. What makes that period so engaging or important for children to learn?

We’ll go first with a left-field suggestion… The British Empire 🇬🇧

👋 Are you teaching the Stone Age 🦣 this Autumn?

If so, we’d love to help!

Our Stone-Age Workshop is actually the most-booked workshop we deliver, and every year it helps thousands of children get genuinely excited about history.

The day is packed with hands-on activities that children absolutely love, including:
🪨 Handling Stone Age artefacts and real animal bones
🎨 Creating cave paintings on slate
🪓 Making Stone Age tools and weapons with flint
🏹 Taking part in a safe archery hunting activity
…and much more!

As teachers ourselves, we know how valuable it is when a workshop isn’t just fun, but actually supports your teaching. That’s why our workshops are fully curriculum-linked, highly interactive and designed to give children experiences they’ll remember long after the topic has finished.

One of the questions we’re often asked is whether we have any availability. The good news is that 6 of our 10 workshop leaders deliver our Stone-Age Workshop, so we still have plenty of dates available throughout the Autumn Term (although we do get completely fully booked in Autumn).

Whether you’re looking for a memorable hook to launch your topic, or a fantastic way to bring learning together at the end, we’d love to visit your school.

If you’d like more information, visit our Stone-Age page: https://www.historicworkshops.com/stone-age-workshop.html

You can check availability and book all via our website! It literally takes 2 minutes to make a booking 😎

🚨 Teachers – if you’ve just found out your class for next year, this post is for you…

You now know:
✅ Your year group.
✅ Your history topics.
✅ The perfect time to get next year’s highlights in the diary.

The best history lessons don’t begin with a textbook…

They begin with children meeting a Roman soldier, seeing a scary Viking, having an audience with a King, or having a strange Stone-Age person in their school hall!

That’s exactly what Historic Workshops delivers.

Our immersive workshops don’t just teach history—they ignite curiosity from the very first minute, giving children a genuine excitement for learning that carries right through the topic.

It’s why schools across the UK trust us year after year and why we’ve received thousands of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews from teachers.

Whether you’re teaching Stone Age, Ancient Egypt, Romans, Greeks, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Maya, Tudors, World War II or many other topics, we’ll help your children make meaningful connections with the past through an unforgettable hands-on experience.

📅 Many schools book months in advance to secure their preferred dates, so if you’re planning next year’s curriculum now, this is the ideal time to book.

Give your class a history topic they’ll never forget.
