Small Group Training Sessions 12-14yrs 03/08/2026

Leicester Footballers preseason training with Go Football Coaching

Ages 12-14 - Fridays 7:00-8:15 there are limited spaces left for the small group session this summer!

Small group football sessions (4–6 players) are designed to bridge the gap between individual training and real game performance. These sessions provide a focused, high-quality environment where players can sharpen their skills while developing decision-making under pressure.

Each week covers key topics such as Core Moves, principles of attacking and defending, and structured small-sided games that reinforce the session’s objectives. By working in a small group, players benefit from increased touches on the ball, more game-realistic scenarios, and constant coach feedback.

Adding these sessions onto your training is a powerful way to maximise development. While individual sessions focus on personal technique and detail, small group training introduces competition,
teamwork, and tactical understandinghelping players apply what they’ve learned in a realistic setting.

A great way to stay sharp and build confidence.

Go Football Podcast Ep63 - Loyalty in Grassroots Football

https://open.spotify.com/episode/59rObKQKo3uYCI9yTGQUCv

Are players loyal..or are they already looking for their next club?

Loyalty in grassroots football has become one of the biggest talking points in the modern game.

Players move clubs more frequently than ever before, families are constantly searching for the next opportunity, and coaches are often left wondering whether the time and effort they’ve invested in developing players is truly appreciated.

But is player loyalty disappearing… or has grassroots football simply changed?

In Episode 63 of the Go Football Podcast, its an honest and balanced look at one of the most challenging aspects of coaching today players leaving clubs and what it means for everyone involved.

This episode isn’t about criticising players or parents. Sometimes moving clubs is absolutely the right decision. A new challenge, a better fit, or a fresh environment can all be positive reasons to move.

However, this episode also explores the growing trend of players trialling with other clubs behind their coach’s back, how rumours can spread through a team, and the impact that uncertainty can have on dressing room culture and team spirit.

Research into youth sport consistently shows that children are more likely to stay involved in sport when they:

* Enjoy their football
* Feel valued by their coach
* Have strong friendships within the team
* Feel challenged at the right level
* Experience a positive team environment

In this episode we discuss:

⚽ Why players and families decide to move clubs
⚽ Has social media created a “grass is greener” mentality?
⚽ How losing players affects teammates and club culture
⚽ The emotional impact on volunteer grassroots coaches
⚽ Why communication between coaches and parents matters
⚽ How to build a team environment players don’t want to leave
⚽ When moving clubs is the right decision and when it might not be
⚽ How coaches should respond professionally when players leave
Sometimes loyalty isn’t about the badge…

It’s about the people.

OVERLOAD ATTACKING GAME | BREAKING LINES & ACTIVATING PLAYERS

This Overload Attacking Game is designed to improve a team’s ability to break defensive lines, create overloads, and recognise the right moments to play forward.

The practice begins with a square pass, which acts as the trigger to start play. From that moment, attackers work together to move the ball with purpose and identify opportunities to break through the defensive lines.

As each line-breaking pass is played, new players become active, creating fresh overloads and forcing both teams to react quickly. This encourages constant movement, communication, and awareness, as the game changes every time a line is broken.

With quick resets after each attack, the tempo stays high, giving players plenty of repetitions and keeping the intensity throughout the session.

KEY FOCUS AREAS

• Breaking defensive lines with forward passes
• Creating and exploiting overloads
• Timing of supporting runs
• Playing through midfield
• Movement off the ball
• Scanning before receiving
• Quick transitions after activation
• Communication and teamwork

WHY THIS PRACTICE WORKS

Modern football is about recognising when to play forward and when to keep possession.

This game teaches players to:

✔ Identify passing lanes early
✔ Break lines with quality passes
✔ Support attacks as new players become active
✔ React quickly to changing overloads
✔ Move the ball at match speed
✔ Transition instantly after each phase

The square pass trigger creates a consistent starting point, while the quick resets maximise repetitions and maintain a high-intensity, game-realistic environment.

PERFECT FOR:

• Team tactical sessions
• Possession and attacking play
• Midfield development
• Breaking defensive lines
• Youth & grassroots football
• Academy coaching programmes

This is an excellent practice for coaches looking to improve forward passing, movement, and intelligent support play while creating realistic attacking scenarios.

Trigger. Break the line. Activate. Attack.
