A donor has sponsored one student to study at-Taʾṣīl for the full academic year. Not a discount — the whole place.

What the sponsor has covered:
· One student, one academic year: the fees that are normally £40 a month, £490 for the year including the Diploma examination
· For a brother or sister aged 16 or over who wants to study, and for whom the fee is the obstacle
· In the room at Masjid Fida, Leicester, or joining the same live session online
· The year has already begun, so the place is available now

How to ask: email [email protected] and tell us briefly who you are and why you are asking. Write plainly — there is no form, and nothing you send goes further than the College.

If it is not you, it may be someone you know. Send it to them.

For eleven days we have taken you through the texts one by one — the three creed matns, the Forty, al-Fiqh al-Muyassar, Ibn Kathīr, Madinah Book 1, al-Ājurrūmiyyah, Ḥilyah, ar-Raḥīq, Riyāḍ aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn. Tonight the reading stops and the year begins.

What starts this evening:
· ʿAqīdah, fiqh, ḥadīth, tafsīr and Arabic — the foundational texts of the Madinah curriculum
· Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8–9pm, September to July
· In the room at Masjid Fida, 9 Osmaston Road, Leicester LE5 5JN — or joining the same live session online
· Four texts carried in memory by July, and a defined Arabic Level 1

Come with a notebook and a copy of the Qur'an. Sit at the front.

Who are you when nobody is watching?

This is where the year lands. Everything studied becomes either character or information, and which one it became shows up in anger, in honesty, in the company you keep, and in the phone in your hand.

Riyāḍ aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn (رياض الصالحين) by Imām an-Nawawī (d. 676H).

What we study of it:
· Anger, and what the Sunnah tells you to do in the ten seconds you have
· Patience, honesty, and keeping the company that keeps you
· Daʿwah with wisdom, from an-Naḥl 16:125
· The phone in your hand, judged by the same chapters

Selected character chapters, taken in the final Leadership Lab of the year.

By July the dīn you studied is the way you behave, not the notes sitting in your file.

That is the eleventh and last of the texts. The year begins on Monday 21 September.

Leadership was never a theory. It was a life, recorded day by day.

Everything else written about leading people is somebody's idea. One leader has his decisions preserved in detail — including the ones that looked like defeats at the time. You do not have to imagine how he led. You can read it.

ar-Raḥīq al-Makhtūm (الرحيق المختوم), The Sealed Nectar, by Shaykh Ṣafī ar-Raḥmān al-Mubārakpūrī (d. 1427H).

What we study of it:
· Shūrā at the Trench: how the Prophet ﷺ took counsel, and from whom
· Patience at Ḥudaybiyah: accepting terms that looked like a defeat
· Mercy at the Conquest of Makkah: power held and deliberately not used
· Young leaders among the Ṣaḥābah: Muṣʿab, Usāmah, Ibn ʿAbbās and ʿĀʾishah

Read as case studies inside the Leadership Labs, not as a taught sīrah course.

By July you have studied how he took counsel, held to a hard agreement, and used power by not using it.

Knowledge in the wrong character is a danger to its owner.

The scholars learned adab before they learned ʿilm, and for good reason. A student who knows a great deal and cannot sit properly in a gathering has been handed something he is not able to carry.

Ḥilyat Ṭālib al-ʿIlm (حلية طالب العلم) by Shaykh Bakr Abū Zayd (d. 1429H) is the manual for that: the manners of the seeker of knowledge, set out plainly.

What we study of it:
· Adab with yourself: sincerity, dignity, and what you do when nobody is watching
· Adab with your teacher: how to ask, how to disagree, how to sit
· Adab with your companions in the ḥalaqah
· Adab with the book itself, and how a student handles what he does not yet know

Selected chapters, read across the six Leadership Labs rather than as a taught strand.

By July you know how a seeker sits, asks, disagrees, and behaves when he does not know.

Now put a name to what you have been doing.

Madinah Book 1 teaches you Arabic by feel — you build correct sentences before you can say why they are correct. This matn gives every part of it a proper name.

al-Ājurrūmiyyah (الآجرومية) by Ibn Ājurrūm aṣ-Ṣanhājī (d. 723H) is the first grammar text of the tradition, memorised by students long before Qaṭr an-Nadā and the Alfiyyah.

What we study of it:
· What speech is, and its three parts: noun, verb and particle
· Iʿrāb and bināʾ — what changes at the end of a word, and what is fixed
· The signs of rafʿ, naṣb, jarr and jazm, on one table
· The marfūʿāt, applied to Qur'anic sentences and a ḥadīth of the Forty

An introduction only, taken as far as the marfūʿāt. The rest of the matn waits for later study.

By July you name the parts of speech, know the signs of every case, and parse a verse of the Qur'an out loud.

Every book so far was written in a language you don't read.

Translation gets you close. It never gets you all the way there — and every text in this series was written in Arabic.

Durūs al-Lughah al-ʿArabiyyah (دروس اللغة العربية), the Arabic Course for English-Speaking Students by Dr V. Abdur Rahim, is the coursebook the Islamic University of Madinah wrote for its own language institute and has taught there for decades. Its vocabulary is Qur'anic from the first lesson.

What we study of it:
· The article, the iḍāfah, pronouns, adjectives and the nominal sentence
· Sound and broken plurals, the dual, and numbers to twenty
· The past-tense verb with its subject pronouns, and the verbal sentence
· Three target checks in the year, so you always know where you stand

Book 1 of a three-book series. It carries you to a defined Arabic Level 1, written and oral, examined in July.

By July you read and write voweled Arabic, build your own sentences, and sit a Level 1 examination.

You know these sūrahs by heart. Do you know what they say?

Juzʾ ʿAmma is the part of the Qur'an nearly every Muslim has memorised — and the part almost nobody has had explained. We recite it in every prayer, and for most of us the meaning never arrives.

Mukhtaṣar Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr (مختصر تفسير ابن كثير) is the abridgement of the tafsīr of al-Ḥāfiẓ Ismāʿīl ibn Kathīr ad-Dimashqī (d. 774H). He explains the Qur'an by the Qur'an, then by the Sunnah, then by the understanding of the Salaf. Never by opinion.

What we study of it:
· al-Fātiḥah, verse by verse — the sūrah you recite at least seventeen times a day
· Every sūrah of Juzʾ ʿAmma, the portion you already carry in memory
· A word list for each sūrah, feeding straight into the Arabic strand
· Four sessions inside Ramaḍān itself, with a reflection journal

A section of a very large work: al-Fātiḥah and the last juzʾ. Chosen because it is the part you actually pray with.

By July you can explain al-Fātiḥah and every sūrah of Juzʾ ʿAmma, and you pray understanding what you recite.

You have prayed thousands of times. Who taught you how?

For most of us, someone did — a long time ago, and without ever showing us the evidence. So we pray by imitation, and hope it is right.

al-Fiqh al-Muyassar fī Ḍawʾ al-Kitāb wa-s-Sunnah (الفقه الميسَّر), written by a panel of scholars and printed by the King Fahd Complex in Madinah, sets every ruling beside the proof it rests on, and flags the errors people inherit without noticing.

What we study of it:
· Purification: water, wuḍūʾ, ghusl, tayammum and ḥayḍ
· Prayer: its times and conditions, the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ described, congregation, travel, Jumuʿah and the two ʿĪds
· Funerals: washing, shrouding, the prayer and burial
· Fasting: taught before Ramaḍān arrives, so you enter the month knowing the rulings

Three of the book's books this year. Zakāh, ḥajj and transactions are not covered — this is a foundation year, not the whole of fiqh.

By July you purify and pray as the evidences describe, and you can say why for each part of it.
