Playing outdoors gives children space to move, explore and discover the world around them. Running, climbing and balancing help develop their strength and coordination, while fresh air and time in nature support their wellbeing.

Natural objects such as leaves, sticks, stones and pinecones invite children to use their senses and imagination. They can sort, count, build and create with them, developing their language, problem solving and fine motor skills. As children notice the seasons and care for the world around them, they also grow in confidence and curiosity.

🎨 Exploring Colours, Textures & Fine Motor Skills 🎨

Our children have been enjoying lots of opportunities to explore different colours, textures and materials through hands-on play and discovery.

By touching, squeezing, mixing, picking up, pouring and manipulating different materials, children are developing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These small movements help strengthen the muscles in their hands and fingers, which are important for future skills such as holding pencils, using scissors, fastening clothes and becoming more independent. ✋

Exploring different colours and textures also encourages children to use their senses, make choices and become curious about the world around them. They can begin to notice similarities and differences and learn new descriptive words such as soft, rough, smooth, sticky, hard, bright and dark.

These experiences give our children the freedom to experiment, investigate and be creative, while building confidence, concentration and problem-solving skills.

At Paint Pots, we love creating opportunities where children can learn through touching, exploring, creating and having fun! 🌿🎨

Our children have been busy enjoying a wonderful foraging walk, exploring the outdoors and searching for natural treasures such as leaves, sticks, flowers, seeds and other interesting objects.

Foraging walks are a fantastic way for children to learn through real-life experiences. As they search, collect and investigate, they develop their curiosity, observation skills and understanding of the natural world. 🍂

The children are also building their language and communication skills as they talk about what they can see, feel and find, using new words to describe different colours, shapes, sizes and textures.

Collecting and handling natural objects supports fine motor development, while walking and exploring outdoors encourages physical development, confidence and independence.

Most importantly, experiences like this encourage our children to slow down, notice the world around them, ask questions and develop a love and respect for nature. 🌱

We can't wait to explore all of the wonderful natural treasures the children have discovered! 💚

The children have worked incredibly hard, sharing their ideas, being creative and working together as a team. They are very proud of what they have made.

Please come along and take a look at our wonderful scarecrow and see how hard the children have worked!

Our children have enjoyed planting, caring for and harvesting their own vegetables before tasting the food they helped to grow.

This hands-on experience teaches children where food comes from and helps them understand what plants need to grow. It develops their patience, responsibility and confidence while supporting communication, teamwork and physical skills.

Growing our own vegetables also encourages children to explore healthy foods using their senses and makes them more willing to try something new. What a wonderful way to learn from nature!

The children have been enjoying real-life experiences within our local community. They took a walk to the post box and watched the letters being posted. Along the way, they were excited to see the road workers repairing the road and using their different tools and machinery. This encouraged lots of curiosity, new vocabulary and conversations about the important jobs people do in our community.

Early mark-making is an important part of a child’s development. Scribbling, painting, drawing and making patterns help children strengthen the muscles needed for writing. These activities also encourage creativity, communication and confidence as children begin to give meaning to the marks they create.
