Why I don’t recommend collagen protein

Now you can have it if you want but here is why it’s not that great and is being really hyped up at the moment 👇🏼

It’s important
But supplementing collagen is not

Just cause you are consuming more of it doesn’t mean you are building more of it

The idea that is being pushed by the supplement industry heavily at the moment is cause your hair, skin and nails are built from it supplementing it must help right?!

Sorry to tell you that isn’t how it actually works

Eating collagen doesn’t mean you’l build collagen

Collagen is a protein

When you eat it you body breaks down into amino acids (this happens when you eat any protein - it’s why when you eat chicken you don’t turn into a chicken)

Once it’s broken down into amino acids go based on where your body needs … you can’t just make it go to your hair, skin and nails though soz

One of the reasons I don’t recommend collagen is that it isn’t a complete protein.

It’s missing an essential acid your body can’t make on its own.

So as protein source it’s not that useful for building muscle.

Most of the hype around it is from industry funded studies. And lot of it is sponsored by the companies selling it, this makes them biased. Often lacking a control group that are supplementing with something like whey for comparison.

If you want better hair skin and nails then you are better off focusing on:

- Prioritise protein - a variety of complete sources
- Wear sunscreen
- Get enough vitamin C (your body needs it to make collagen)
- Eat a nutrient-dense diet
- Reduse stress, sleep well, stop under eating

Sorry it’s boring and it’s more effort than just taking a supplement but this is whats actually effective

Motivation - so you don’t give up!

1️⃣Don’t compare your day 1 to someone else’s year 5

You don’t know how long someone has been doing this, each persons journey is so individual. The way your body responds to what you do is going to look different.

2️⃣Doing more isn’t always better

Doing double workouts, doing cardio everyday isn’t going to mean faster results.
You will hit a point of diminishing returns and at that point your efforts are actually detrimental.
It’s only beneficial if you can recover from it.

3️⃣No Detox or magic pills

You have a liver and kidneys to remove toxins from your body for you, no pills or foods will do this for you.

Big red flag is if they cannot name what toxins they are removing - it’s cause they don’t know!

4️⃣It’s not all ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods

Eating just broccoli for the rest of your life is going to be bad just has eating just chocolate would be.
You need a variety of food in your diet, and this can include chocolate!

Consistency and habits is what is going to get the results

5️⃣One off plan meal isn’t going to ruin all your progress

Giving up because of it will

Eating healthy isn’t extreme

We are in a period of time where eating fruit veg and salad is seen as being on a diet

We’ve been conditioned to thinking that we should be able to eat whatever we want whenever we want

We are surrounded by junk food

The modern world is perfectly set up for you to gain weight

How easy is it to

Not move
Not do any steps
Not go to the gym

We can drive everywhere, order food straight to our door

It has never been easier to gan access to food

It’s not your fault but if you don’t want to gain weight then you need to take responsibility

That means not following the norm

Don’t go with the flow

And making conscious decisions at what is going to make you feel your best

12 week results!!

I wanted to feel more comfortable in the many dresses I have got for upcoming weddings and for the summer

Get back into the good habits

Here’s what I didn’t do though:

🧃Go on a juice cleanse
🏃🏽‍♀️Do hours of cardio
🍫Throw out all the chocolate in the house
🍗Eat only chicken and rice

I promise you don’t have to do these things for fat loss

I had burgers, bagels, crisps and chocolate during this time

Just not all the time, there does have to be a level of sacrifice

I had a few birthdays, meals out as well. Having a plan to follow means I don’t feel guilty, I still enjoy myself and don’t punish myself with over restricting or hours of cardio to ‘make up for it’

Other things I implemented:

🏋🏻‍♀️A structured strength retaining programme
👣A step goal
💧Water in take
😴Sleep schedule

The result?

5kg down
Waist measurements down
Maintained glute and leg mass

Stop focusing on what you have to do this week

Start by focusing on the things you want to STOP

For example:
- Stop doom scrolling
- Stop going to bed late
- Stop snacking in the evening

Pick just a few things you want to stop doing

That way the to do list isn’t an overwhelming feeling of dread on a Monday morning

Pick a handful of simple things you would like to stop doing

Kicking the week off to a great start
