Another smashing session with my LE3 workshop warriors! We tackled some challenging tasks this week to create a ukulele out of some biscuit tins and bed slats. Lots of young people supporting one another and parents and guardians also getting involved too.

Second session done! What a wonderful feeling it is to make and create with young people.
Today we made bottle top shakers. This group of young people used a variety of tools and processes to make another musical instrument.
We even made it ergonomic by adding a polymorph handle! Go team SteamPunk!
Thanks to Drum and Brass, Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation and Woodgate Community Food for making this happen for FREE for the young people of LE3!

Just a few pics from yesterday’s introductory Drum and Brass session at rallyhouse Woodgate Community Food. These young engineers for creating flutes from PVC pipe. A huge thanks to Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation for support this vision and giving young people in the LE3 area of Leicester access practical hands on making skills in summer.
We used transferable maths skills, problem solving and were able to leave with an instrument that worked! Now all they have to do is practice how to play. Bravo
An additional thank you to STEAMPunk’s workshop volunteer, Alex Maxwell who came and shared his engineering expertise at the event
