This does sound like a step in the right direction. I hope it means supporting teaching staff at a ground roots level to ensure they feel confident, knowledgeable and supported when working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties and not just another waiting list for support in schools.

No Pens Day - a great fundraising idea from Speech and Language UK. A day that is all about talking and listening, this can include speech, signs, symbols, tech and much more.
One of my mantras thoughout teaching has been 'if they can't say it, they won't be able to write it!'. Children need to tell stories before writing them, children need to remember poems and sing songs before being able to compose their own and there are so many ways we can support children with this, including having a No Pens (or pencils) day.
Maybe everyday should have a No Pens time...

If you take part in No Pens Day or allocate time each day for children just to talk and communicate, let me know in the comments.
