Galway Voices: Ensemble Energy Meets Individual Growth 🇮🇪

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of joining Keara Sheeran and her wonderful choirs in Galway for a four-day hybrid visit, combining choir workshops with one-to-one sessions.

This is a way of working I find increasingly effective and creatively fulfilling. On one hand, I’m in my element leading large groups—sharing arrangements, techniques, and ideas to strengthen ensemble sound, connection, and performance.

On the other, I’m working closely with individuals, helping them better understand their voice and how to use it with greater confidence and control.

Bringing these two approaches together creates something really powerful: a stronger choir, made up of more informed and empowered singers.

✈️ Nothing Beats a Jet2… Choir at King’s Cross 🎶

What a moment for teaming up once again with the brilliant to surprise commuters at King’s Cross Station!

Rush hour turned into a full-on pop-up performance, with harmonies ringing through the station and a few much-needed smiles along the way. 💙

There’s something special about taking music out into the world like this—reminding people to pause, listen, and feel something, even in the middle of a busy commute.

🌟 A Night in the Round 🌟

This has to go down as one of my favourite nights of 2026 so far. For years I’ve wanted to stage something in the round — and the beautiful Brodick Hall finally gave me the perfect space to make it happen. I’ve also long dreamt of blending with members of the public to create a truly immersive choral experience… and last Wednesday, we managed both in one swoop!

A breathtaking venue, a choir in full voice, and the audience singing with us — absolute magic. ✨🎶

Who wants to come and see another one? 👀🙌

🎶 A Saturday Symphony 🎶

What an absolute joy to spend this Saturday with the amazing and their brilliant MD for their ‘Level Up Your Singing’ Day in Hertford.

It was a real privilege to watch the other practitioners in action — Annabelle Williams (), sharing her huge wealth of industry experience, and of course , who delivered a masterclass in leadership and technique. The last time we saw each other was nearly 20 years ago!

In my session we sang, we laughed, we danced — and together we created a full symphony of voices.

Thank you to everyone for your warmth, kindness and open hearts. 💛🎶

🎶 A Moment to Remember 🏆✨

A few years ago I got a call from the wonderful lady on my left, asking if I’d consider taking on the role of MD for a Knaresborough-based community choir. Back then they were around 30 singers, mostly performing a ca****la.

At the time, my schedule was jam-packed, so I initially said no… but if you know Julie, you’ll know she’s very persuasive 😂 A few weeks later I came along to meet them — and from the very first chord they sang, I was sold. The joy was infectious.

Fast-forward a few years, and with the unbelievable dedication of Julie, her husband John, and our brilliant committee, the choir has grown to well over 100 members. And today… we became award-winners for the very first time! 🏅🥇

First place with honours in both of our categories at the Ms Sutherland Choral Festival, and winners of the Joseph Hancock and John Crowther trophies. What a moment for our choir!

People often say moments like these make it all worth it — but honestly, I love every part of directing this choir. The silly warmups, the rehearsal-room laughs, the buzz of nailing a song for the first time… it’s all magic. ✨❤️
