Dear Parents,
Sadly the door mechanism has broken again. We have contacted someone to get this repaired but in the meantime all internal doors will remain locked.
Can we please ask that everyone is gentle with the door. If it does not open after you have pulled it gently once then please buzz the room again as when it is pulled hard or multiple times this is causing the door to break.
We are now looking into replacing this door entirely and will keep you updated with our progress on this.
Thank you
Team Rodley
We are pleased to announce that our Parents Evening this year will be held on Tuesday 23rd July.
This is a lovely opportunity to celebrate your child’s successes and discuss their next steps at nursery.
As always, this event is child free and there will be cakes and drinks for you to enjoy so, please book in your babysitters now and join us.
We would also like to remind parents that all children must be collected from the nursery by 5:30 that day to allow us to get ready for appointments which will start at 5:45.
In the near future there will be some sign-up sheets outside your child’s room for you to pick a time for your appointment.
Many thanks,
Team Rodley
We have resisted rushing into making a decision regarding closure. Other parents have independently called to let us know that roads are very busy and snow is settling on the side streets. Given that the snow is continuing until late this evening, we have made the decision to close at 5pm. A lot of our parents have already been to collect early, thank you for this.
It would be great if we could send the staff off at 5pm as many of them have good distance to travel, such as Methley, Gildersome and Moortown.
We would be very grateful if you could aim for 5pm, we realise that we are not giving you much time to leave work, but we have been trying to avoid early closure. We have a lot of staff who are getting concerned with the prospect of getting home safely.
We understand from other parents that the journey from Horsforth to Rodley and Rodley to Calverley is very slow, so please drive carefully.
Thank you

We have had 4 cases of hand foot and mouth in sea room. Keep an eye out for symptoms as it is contagious. If your child is well in themselves they can still come to nursery however, if they are also unwell then the advice is to stay at home to recover.
I have attached NHS information for you, if unsure give us a call or ask the girls in the room.

Earlier this week Gemma in our farm room carried out a wonderful activity excavating different toys from the ice.
We were really impressed with this and wanted to share it with you some ways to extend the activity at home or even repeat it with your little ones.
Next week is set to be very cold so we imagine there will be lots of ice in our natural environment ready for exploration.
Activity:
What can you find buried in the ice? This activity is a great one for problem solving and using different ‘tools’ – and lots of opportunity to use sense and lots of talk. (Understanding the World: The World, Physical Development: Moving and Handling).
You will need:
• Toy (one that you don’t mind getting wet).
• Freezer safe dish or bowl
• Water
• Freezer
• Child safe equipment for excavating the toy (child sized hammer, rolling pin, spoon etc.)
• If you have them – some gloves and eye goggles!
• A towel, tray or even an outside space where you can break the ice
Instructions:
1. Place a small toy in a bowl, cover the toy with water and pop in the freezer.
2. Once frozen, remove the ice from the dish (you may need to run some hot water of the dish to get it out).
3. Place the ice on a towel, tray or outside – somewhere where you don’t mind the mess and it won’t slide all over the place.
4. Now to find out what’s inside! How will you do it? What will you use? What can you see before you start? What does it feel like? Explore different ideas with your child. Make sure they are safe and supervised while they are excavating. What happens to the ice over time? Does it get easier to excavate?
Explore how this activity effects your senses – What can you see? Can you tell what it is? What does the ice feel like? What happens over time to the ice? What happens to the ice when you hit it and break bits off? Are those pieces still smooth or do they now have rough edges? Can you smell it?
Ideas of other stages of development:
Babies and infants – Depending on your child’s stage of development, you could try freezing a piece of fruit and letting them suck on the ice and playing with it while it melts. They will slowly discover the taste and smell of the fruit – remember to supervise them at all times, and use piece of fruit that are an appropriate size for them. You could also give them an ice cube to play with – use lots of facial expressions with them to share the feel of the ice!
4-5 year older - For older children you could try a range of equipment and give them more ‘adult’ tools – make sure to demonstrate first and that they are supervised at all times.
Extension:
Can you make some ice cubes, and leave one in a bowl on the table, one in the fridge, and maybe one somewhere warm. What happens to them? Do they all melt at the same pace?
