📚Tiny Tales Teacher Tips📚 Don’t underestimate the power of rhyming and your child being able to sing nursery rhymes. They are too overlooked. Rhyming encourages children to differentiate between similar sounds and letters,helping to learn phonics before it’s introduced! How to help: ⭐️Singing nursery rhymes together and pause before the rhyming word-can your child say the word? Say the rhyming couplet back to them ‘star’ and ‘are’. Tell them they rhyme. ⭐️Similarly sing the nursery rhyme and say a word that doesn’t rhyme instead of the correct one (sillier the better!) Only for your child to correct you! Eg. “Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you smell!” ⭐️While waiting for tea/going somewhere in a car etc see if you can encourage your child to carry on your game… Say 2 or 3 simple rhyming words and then tell them to keep going taking turns - making a rhyming string Eg. Adult - “can you keep this going- pan, ban…” Child - “fan” ⭐️Another game Adult - “I spy something that rhymes with bar” child - “car” Let me know if you have fun rhyming! This time a year ago I met with Jenny, Primary Education lecturer at Leeds Trinity Uni (formerly TASC) - a surreal experience for me as this is where in 1999 I came to study to become a teacher…and now 24 years later she’s asking me to TEACH her students how to become the best they can be.

How to be positive, creative, imaginative and skilled at teaching reading.

I LOVED my 3 days of lecturing! I’m delighted to be meeting her again in a week to organise doing more with the class of 2025…brilliant!

⬇️⬇️⬇️ Got your attention hey! 😂 Let me explain: I told this to the parents too yesterday. Sharing stories at bedtime-ABSOLUTELY (this is you reading to them, or them retelling a story to you) But doing their school reading book, just before bed (in our house!) has never worked. They’re too exhausted from the whole school day and just don’t have the capacity to decode and blend at this time of day. So what to do instead:- 📚read whilst they’re having tea (dinner!) 📚in the bath (dangerous I know 💦) but try it! 📚just after they’ve had some down time after school/clubs 📚or like us at breakfast (I find mine are so much sharper in the morning 😄) So switch it up, and let me know in the comments if this helped! I was SO nervous! 🤦🏻‍♀️Ridiculous I know after 10 yrs, but I’ve always had butterflies after the 6 wks holiday as a teacher too and it was off the Richter scale yesterday!

Needless to say I had THE BEST DAY!

As a self employed person I can have very quiet days, full of self doubt-wondering if this is right for me…then I see the delight, awe, wonder and excitement from the children (and adults!) during my workshops and I’m reminded this is what I’m meant to do 💓
