You are warmly invited to the opening of the 'Dérive Leeds' exhibition by Level Two students on the Art and Design programme and ‘Wunderkammer: cabinets of curiosities’ by MAstudents on the new module DESN5441M Interdisciplinary Art and Design the School of Design at the University of Leeds. This opens on Tuesday 10th May from 4-6 pm in the School of Design (Clothworkers Central Building, University of Leeds)

Join us for our annual B.A. Art and Design Open Studio event, giving students across all levels an opportunity to show work in progress.

This is an informal and celebratory event for visitors, friends and family to come into the Art and Design studios to see what our students have been up to

This afternoon will provide a relaxed opportunity to meet the amazing range of staff and students that we have in our School, who come from all over the world. We really are International. The novelist Ernest Hemingway, according to literary legend, was once challenged to write a short story in only six words. The six-word story attributed to him reads: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” We would like to invite all School of Design staff and students to write a six-word memoir, reflect on the changes that coming to our School has meant for you, and then do two things with this: first print or write this out on a piece of A4 paper using an appropriate type or implement e.g., paintbrush, pen, chalk, lipstick, mascara, coal ….

Then take a selfie of yourself holding this and send it to [email protected] along with your name and the place from which you have travelled to Leeds. Please send this to me by Friday 5th November, or earlier.

These photos will be made into a slide show for the Foyer screen, and some will be printed out and placed in the glass cabinets in time for our “We are International” afternoon at the School of Design.
This won’t take long and the more we have, the more effective this will be!

The Archivist, Year 1, Art & Design. The Instagram exhibition brings together level one student work produced during their second semester. It explores ideas concerning the museum collection, the archive, and the material culture of identity. Finishing their first year, "The Archivist" online exhibition celebrates their commitment, tenacity and creativity.

The Foyer Gallery is delighted to present the annual Level 2, BA(Hons) Art & Design exhibition as an online Instagram show, entitled ‘Lieux de Memoire’. Have a look on this link https://www.instagram.com/thefoyerschoolofdesignleeds/?hl=en

The work, created during the second semester, explores ideas arising from the brief ‘Time, Place and Memory’ in all of its complexities and layers. For Gabi Centro, it allowed an opportunity for many “to tune into personal themes of nostalgia, dreaming, internal, and external space which have all been so intrinsically linked to our current physical situations, creating even stronger links within our work.” This diverse and vivid work is a testament to the creativity and resourcefulness of these students who have had to work away from the University. As Jamie Sheridan notes “The days spent at home, away from our loved ones, resulted in only one overall conclusion, Self-reflection. This time to reflect has resulted in a new perspective we never thought we would have”. The exhibition poster (designed by India Martin, with help from Summer Davis) “signifies a narrative depicting the thriving student community of Hyde Park; significant as a place and memory of current and former students” (Frances Thompson). ‘Lieux de Memoire’ celebrates and congratulates students for the extraordinary work that has been created in this time.

Your support for this School of Design International Day this Wednesday at 2.00 would be very much welcomed. All students, staff and alumni, international or with an international outlook are very much encouraged to come.

The event includes the return of some of our international alumni who have a wide range of professions ... it might be interesting to talk with them.
