👨‍🎓LUUMS Alumni Spotlight  #11

For the final edition of our alumni spotlight series this year, we are delighted to introduce El Clarke, the outgoing president of LUUMS!

El has devoted so much of their time and love to the society and has taken on several roles with the society, both as a conductor and a vital member of the committee as concerts manager and president. They began by co-conducting in 2023, and went on to lead for two years.

This year, El took on the monumental task of spearheading the society’s 100th anniversary campaign. Under their leadership, the LUUMS committee was awarded special recognition at the annual Riley Awards, and the society was voted the best Music & Performance society in the LUU!

👩‍🎓LUUMS Alumni Spotlight #10

Introducing Dr. Susan Wanless, conductor of the LUUMS Symphony Orchestra and LUUMS Chorus between 1980-1984.

After graduating, Susan went on to conduct choirs and orchestras around Yorkshire including the Wakefield Festival Chorus and the Morley Choral Society.

In September 1987 she moved south to Canterbury to become the Director of Music at the University of Kent.
