A huge well done to our T-level and BTEC learners today. We’re so proud of all of you! 🎉🎊

With almost 60% of our T-level students achieving a merit, just shy of 10% achieving a distinction and an overall pass rate of more than 94% it’s safe to say it’s been a successful year here at LCB.

We also saw a pass rate of more than 93% across both our Unit 1 and Unit 2 learners taking part in BTEC apprenticeships at the college.

We’re absolutely thrilled with this year’s results and ready to get back to work building future industry greats! 👷🏗️

VOTE LCB! 🗳

We’re in the customer vote for the Tesco Fruit & Veg grants programme, a scheme which gives community projects like ours grants of up to £1,500.

Our project, titled Stronger Starts on Site, will provide free healthy breakfasts and practical cooking sessions for young construction learners, helping them eat well, improve wellbeing and build skills for life.

Many young people at LCB face real barriers to eating well, including cost, limited cooking skills and reliance on low-cost convenience food.

Over 60% of our learners are from disadvantaged backgrounds, with many living in areas of high deprivation across Leeds. As a result, some students attend college without having eaten, which directly impacts their ability to concentrate, engage and learn.

For construction learners, this is particularly important. They are preparing to enter a physically demanding industry where energy, focus and resilience are essential for both performance and safety.

The voting is open NOW and runs until the end of November.

Below is the full list of stores taking part, so please VOTE LCB and support us next time you shop at Tesco.

At LCB we know that industry collaboration is essential in tackling the skills shortage in construction.

That’s why we were delighted when our long time partners Marlborough Construction Services Limited, Willmott Dixon and Henley Group delivered a weeklong programme for our students as part of SCAPE’s Community Legacy Programme.

Our students gained first-hand experience of life on site through visits to live projects, including Marlborough’s Assisted Living development in Leeds, before taking on a practical brickwork challenge.

BIG NEWS for anyone bidding on central government contracts…

The Cabinet Office has just published ‘PPN 026: the new Social Value Model’, and it puts jobs and skills front and centre.

What's changing:
✅ Streamlined to just 2 outcomes — Good Jobs and Skills — with 6 award criteria
✅ Minimum weighting for social value DOUBLES to 20% on contracts worth £5m+ (was 10%)
✅ Contracts £1m–£5m still need a 10% minimum weighting
✅ £5m+ contracts must now include at least one social value KPI, publicly reported annually
✅ Poor delivery against these KPIs can count against suppliers in future bids

Apprenticeships, work placements and talent pipelines are called out explicitly.

The guidance even cites 45 days of work experience as the kind of commitment government wants to see.

This takes effect for procurements starting on or after 1 January 2027, with full technical guidance due this autumn.

For employers bidding on public sector construction and built environment contracts, having a credible training and skills delivery partner is about to matter more than ever.

At LCB, we're ready to help our employer partners turn these requirements into a genuine competitive advantage.
Get in touch to talk apprenticeships, work placements and skills pipelines.

Last week the government announced plans to help young people into work by paying some parents on benefits up to £4,500 a year to encourage their children to start apprenticeships.

Families will be offered this bursary to replace Universal Credit payments lost by starting jobs.

The payment is expected to benefit an estimated few thousand households, who currently face losing between £17 and £330 a week if their children start apprenticeships.
