Horsforth Music Centre's groups are looking for new players!

Want to try out a Concert Band, Jazz Band, Blues Band or a Classical Woodwind group?

On September 12th we'll be running a special taster day for some of our many brilliant senior ensembles and bands. If you play at grade 4/5 or above, we have the group for you. It's just £7.50 (or £5 for under 18s) to try out either one or two of the groups.

Rusty players are very welcome!

All of these groups also run year round (starting the following Saturday, September 19th), and we hope you'll join up, but there's no obligation or pressure - come along for the day, dip a toe in the water and see how it goes!

VOTE FOR LESLEY GIBBENS IN CLASSIC FM'S MUSIC TEACHER AWARDS!

Our wonderful Adult Strings and First Orchestra leader, Lesley, has been deservedly nominated in the Lifetime Achievement category of Classic FM's Music Teacher of the Year Awards.

Lesley has been at HMC since 1982 and in that time her work has touched thousands of students. She founded the Adult Strings ensemble in the '80s and it has gone from strength to strength ever since, with some members now in their fifth decade of playing in the group! At the other end of the scale, there's Horsforth First Orchestra which came together just after Covid and has gone from strength to strength as an accessible starter ensemble for young (and old!) players. She also runs our legendary summer workshops, and this year masterminded an epic 160-strong performance of Mr Blue Sky for our 50th anniversary.

A vote for Lesley would not just mean some recognition for the incredible work she does; there is also a total of £20,000 worth of musical equipment available to be won, which would make a massive difference to us at HMC.

We have revealed the shortlist of five nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award, in the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards 2026 with ABRSM. Vote now!

Love playing jazz, and based in / near Leeds? Come and try out our band on September 12th - just one of a whole range of groups you'll be able to sample at our taster day.

The jazz session will include Dixieland, Big Band and Salsa repertoire, to give a taste of what we offer every Saturday in our three jazz bands. You can also try out our Concert Band, Blues Band or Classical Woodwind group. No matter what instrument you play, if you're roughly grade 4/5 above we have the group for you.

ENROLMENT FOR 2026/27 IS GO!

Horsforth Music Centre will be opening for the new term on SATURDAY 19th SEPTEMBER.

We have our usual amazing range of activities available, covering everything from pre-school groups to tuition classes to advanced adult ensembles. Want to learn an instrument but not sure which one? Come to the Horsforth Music Centre Taster Morning!

We offer tuition for all ages (including children and adults) on a huge range of musical instruments. Choose taster sessions with our expert tutors on up to three of the following, and find out what suits you best:

Guitar
Violin
Piano
Drum kit
Brass (trumpet/cornet)
Woodwind (clarinet/flute)
Hand percussion (drum circle!)

Younger children (aged 3-5) can try our special Mini Music Makers session.

Instruments are provided, and the price is just £5 for children or £7.50 for adults.

ADVANCED ORCHESTRAL WORKSHOP - SATURDAY 4th JULY

We still have a few spaces left on our orchestral workshop at St Margaret's Church for more advanced players (particularly brass/woodwind), based around Beethoven's Symphony no. 7.

The day is aimed at brass, string and woodwind players at an intermediate to advanced level (we may also have room for a percussionist or two!). Players will work in sections with guidance from our tutors throughout the day, focussing on movements 2 and 3 and aiming for an informal sharing of this in the afternoon. We will also have a go at movements 1 and 4, if time allows. The workshop is aimed at those who would like to ‘have a go’ at a challenging but fun Beethoven symphony, in a friendly and supportive setting, without the pressure of a formal performance..
