Hello, I am a researcher at Leeds Beckett University. Cheers, Marie

I am researching to improve healthcare for those going through Menopause + I am offering free events & programs where you can get involved, learn more and connect with others.

What are your favorite places to go for finding a sense of connections & support in Peri-Menopause ?
Comment with groups/ books/ events or things like that, or anything you found useful ☺️

In the last weeks I (Marie) have been on 2 conferences that gave me the chance to speak about the research I am doing. I really enjoyed it and people were excited about it 🙏🏻 however there is something about this topic/ research in general or my way of presenting it, which makes people think that we measure bone & muscle strength.
We might do- but that’s NOT the focus 🙂

So I just want to clarify where my focus lies.

We talk about strength training because, yes ! it’s vital for long-term health and can help symptoms but that’s not what we are researching predominantly. We are more concerned about getting people active and well in Perimenopause.

We want to create an intervention that makes those in perimenopause feel supported and better within their bodies, minds and social network. We want to empower those in perimenopause to speak up and take space!

And we want to research what needs to be done to instill that confidence, knowledge and motivation for people to start/ continue strength training on their own.

Research does not necessarily mean having a “before” and “after” picture/ snapshot 🙂 it can also be a reflection on all the learnings we made on the way 👉
Hope this makes sense 😉

Thank you, Elaine, for sharing your story. 🙏🏻

I deeply appreciate your bravery in discussing topics that some might find uncomfortable, such as weight gain and changes in sexual desire. These experiences are very common and deserve open conversation. While I may not know much about Elaine’s personal life and health, I'd like to share some statistics to help normalize these changes.

A 2009 online survey found that 38% of peri-menopausal and 56% of post-menopausal women reported vaginal dryness, with over 78% believing this led to reduced libido. However, it's important to understand that these issues are often multifaceted. Other contributing factors include fatigue, increased irritability with partners, and a general discomfort in one's own skin.

Elaine, it sounds like you have been very proactive in managing life after menopause and have found a routine that works well for you. Thank you again for your openness and courage in sharing your journey.
