Risks of returning to face-to-face piano teaching in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic

The government has announced further easing of restrictions on businesses in England, so I intend to resume face-to-face instrumental tuition from 27 July.
I nevertheless believe online piano teaching remains the safest way to proceed as it is a no-risk option, so I will continue to offer online lessons. There is also the option of some lessons being face-to-face and some online - a hybrid option.

I have carried out a risk assessment for my home studio and it is attached here for you to read should you wish. Please see it in the comment section below. This risk assessment is a matter for collaboration between parents, students and the teacher - therefore this assessment will only be finalised after consultation with those persons has taken place and agreement to the control measures put in place. If you would like to add or change anything, please let me know.

Kindest regards,

Gergely Kendik

Dear Students and Parents!

Thank you for the ongoing support and dear parents, thank you for trusting me with your children. Many of you are planning to add an extra Skype piano lesson to the weekly routine due to school closures. I would like to offer the second lesson at half price. Take care of your family and each other.

The Kodaly Method 18/06/2019

There are almost as many approaches to learning music as there are musicians. Zoltán Kodály's method plays a huge part in my approach to teaching music, especially to ear training. It combines several powerful techniques for developing the core skills of musicianship. According to Kodály, no child is devoid of musicality, he just needs to go and bring it out in the most appropriate way. The Kodály method (also referred to as the Kodály concept) is a way of developing musical skills and teaching musical concepts starting from a very early age. The method uses a child-developmental approach to sequence, introducing skills according to the capabilities of the child. The method incorporates rhythm syllables, includes the use of rhythmic movement and a system of movable "do" solfege syllables.

"Why is it so exciting? What makes it so beautiful?"

I have asked myself this many times. Through my studies, I discovered the secret hides in music theory.

Do you like pop or rock? We can build a series of lessons around some of your favourite pop, rock songs, revealing the great songwriting tricks! Are you a classical music lover? We can incorporate the theory while we learn the classical masterpieces. Are you interested in jazz and improvisation? You can learn the theory, understand the chord structures, and develop the skills you need to improvise in any form of music.

I can help you learn any musical style, and any song you are interested in!

I’ve been playing the piano for almost 28 years. I perform regularly in various groups, playing many different styles of music from jazz to pop to soul music. In the last 17 years, I’ve performed at hundreds of concerts across Europe, and toured the UK & abroad extensively. Alongside my professional career in the music industry, teaching has always been an important part of my life.

Classical music, pop, rock or jazz; each requires a different approach. I provide friendly tuition to help anyone develop their playing. The syllabus is flexible to taste and always tailored to the student's needs and aims. Lessons are available for all ages and all ability levels.
