Earth Day 2026 🌎

💚💙To celebrate Earth Day at Little Owls Meanwood we have been creating our own worlds using green and blue paint on paper plates, exploring green and blue water in the tuff tray followed by painting their own earths.

🗣️We had a discussion with the children about living on Earth and discussed that green is for trees and fields and blue is for ocean and rivers.

Well, here we are on the last day of the Spring Term already!

🌸🌼🌻.

We said a sad goodbye to our 9 little chicks this morning. They were collected by Living Eggs and returned to a free range farm. The children have learnt so much about the lifecycle of a chicken and have had a fabulous time watching them hatch from their eggs and learning about how to handle and take special care of them 🐣🐤🐥. Look out for the arrival of the caterpillars during the summer term 🐛🦋🌸!

Easter Holidays:

Nursery will be closed all day tomorrow for the Good Friday Bank Holiday and all day on Monday 6th April for Bank Holiday Easter Monday. We hope you all enjoy your lovely long weekend 😊.

Children who attend term time only break up today and return to nursery from the week beginning Monday 20th April. We wish you all a fantastic fortnight and look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you come back.

Happy Holidays everyone🐣🌻🐰🍫!

Today we have welcomed our first four chicks 🐥
The children have loved going to see the chicks and we have had lots of lovely conversations about the eggs and the baby chicks 🐤
There has been a real buzz of excitement in the air since the arrival of the eggs and we have done lots of lovely chick activities including talking about the lifecycle and creating chick Easter cards. 📖
💬 “How do we get chicks in there?”
💬 “They’re sleeping.”
💬 “The egg will crack it.”
💬 “They’re waking up. They’ve got some feet.”
💬 “They're quacking.”

📖 World Book Day 📖

📚To celebrate world book day the children and staff have come to nursery in fancy dress and have been participating in lots of story themed activities

👶 In Baby Room we have been focussing on the Emma Garcia ‘All About Sounds‘ series. This morning we had different activities in each area corresponding to each book and the children have loved reading these during their play and using the different props to join in with the story. These have been great for developing the children‘s phonological awareness.

👦 In Buttercup’s the children have been reading their favourite stories that they have brought from home and have gotten involved in a sensory ’Bear Hunt’ activity. This was a very exciting way for the children to explore their senses whilst immersing themselves in the story.

🏫 In preschool the children have been showing off their different stories from home, retelling these to their friend and acting them out using their costumes. They have also engaged in some story themed craft activities and eagerly acted out some of their favourite stories using the puppets and theatre in the book corner.

World Book Day 🌎📚

We are thrilled to celebrate World Book Day at nursery on Thursday, 5th March. It’s a fantastic opportunity to inspire imagination, boost confidence, encourage a love of reading, and enjoy stories together.

To make the day even more exciting, we are inviting the children to come dressed as their favourite book characters! The costumes can be as straightforward or as imaginative as you wish, whether it is their beloved characters, cosy pyjamas for a bedtime theme, they can even bring a cherished book to share with friends.

Reading plays a key role in developing:

⭐️ language and communication skills

⭐️ imagination and creativity

⭐️ listening and attention

⭐️ confidence and early literacy skills

We can't wait to see all the wonderful costumes and celebrate the joy of books together!
