We’ve had a busy week across our schools, and one area we’re always passionate about is using food for regulation.
Eating and drinking are about so much more than nutrition. Food can help us connect socially, support emotional regulation, and influence our arousal and attention levels throughout the day.
A few simple examples:
🥖 Feeling agitated or dysregulated? Chewy foods like crusty bread can help increase focus and attention.
🍋 Feeling sleepy or overwhelmed? A slice of lime or orange, or a strong mint, can provide an alerting boost.
🥤 Struggling to concentrate? Try a thick smoothie through a straw.
Learning how different foods affect our bodies and brains is a valuable skill for students, staff, and families alike. When we understand how to use food intentionally for regulation, it can create meaningful shifts in everyday life.

This week, we’ve had an amazing time becoming detectives as we tried to solve the mystery of who stole Fiona’s lunch! The children spent the whole week searching for clues, checking the staff room for evidence, and adding all their findings to our investigation board ready for the police to inspect.
Throughout the week, different pieces of evidence were brought to us to help solve the case. Emily was spotted in a picture eating a ham sandwich, Magda had Quavers hidden under her desk, Amy had an empty packet of Quavers in her bag, Helen had an orange in her bag, and Jess had a picture of Crunchies. The children loved discussing each clue and deciding whether it could help crack the case!
Today, the police came to visit and spoke to the children about their important role in helping people and keeping us safe. The children loved learning all about what police officers do and were very excited to try on some uniform and hear the siren in the police car!
After carefully looking at all the evidence — and discovering a confession letter — the children finally solved the case with the help of the police- The culprits were revealed to be Kyla and Elly!
The children were incredibly proud of themselves for their fantastic detective work, and the police thanked them for all their hard work throughout the investigation. What a brilliant and exciting week we have had!
