What a fantastic day Year 2 Willow had in Scarborough! ☀️🌊
The children were wonderfully behaved and had a brilliant time exploring the coastline, spotting geographical features, sketching the coast, paddling in the sea, playing on the beach and enjoying a well-earned ice cream! 🍦
Lots of smiles, learning and happy memories were made today. Many of the children even said it was 'the best day ever'.

What a fantastic day Year 1 had riding the miniature railway and visiting Pugneys! The children loved every minute and were full of smiles from start to finish. Bob and the team taught us all about a steam train and a diesel train, and how both of these work. The children were so excited to share facts they already knew, and the team were very impressed by their brilliant knowledge and curiosity.
One of the most exciting parts of the day was watching Miss Millard, Mrs Smith and Mrs Murray take turns being the conductor and driving the train. The children were amazed to see them in action and loved cheering them on as they helped to run the railway. This made the experience even more memorable and fun for everyone.
We also enjoyed a lovely picnic in the sunshine before heading back to school. It was a super day filled with learning, laughter and lots of happy memories. A huge thank you to everyone at Pugneys for making our trip such a special one! 🚂🚂

Year 6 had a great time at Forest school. They played hide and seek, worked in teams finding wild flowers before labelling them, then they played a game of archery. Although it was raining, they still had lots of fun!

More than half a million additional pupils across England are expected to become eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) from September 2026.
More than half a million additional pupils across England are expected to become eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) from September 2026 as national eligibility criteria expand. Under the updated rules, all households receiving Universal Credit will qualify for FSM, removing the current £7,400 income cap. The Department for Education (DfE) estimates that this change could save families up to £495 per child each year in school lunch costs.
New Free School Meals types
From September 2026 there will be three types of free school meal:
Targeted FSM: pupils in households with earned income under £7,400
Expanded FSM: all other pupils in families receiving Universal Credit
Universal Infant Free School meals: these will continue for all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who don’t qualify under either of the above criteria. Families do not need to apply for these.
The Department for Education have published an updated guide to free school meals:
Free school meals: guidance for local authorities, local -authority-maintained schools, academies and free schools - GOV.UK
It explains:
All transitional protections of existing free school meals cease end of the 2025/26 school year
The new eligibility criteria for the start of school year 2026/27
A new checking system will be released to Local Authorities on 1/6/26 to enable checks to be done based on the new eligibility criteria
