Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England and a dynamic place to study Higher Education and Further Education courses. The entire University is dedicated to the study of art, design and crafts. Over the last 170 years, we've built a national and international reputation as an exciting alternative to traditional universities, consistently produced the arti

sts and designers of the future: sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth studied with us in the 1920s and, more recently Marcus Harvey, Turner Prize-winner Damien Hirst, Danny Sangra and Omar Kashoura were students here. Right at the heart of one of the most exciting cities in the country, we're smaller than most universities, so the atmosphere is friendlier and you get plenty of personal attention to offer you a uniquely focused learning experience and big enough to offer you all the opportunities, resources and support you're looking for.

ontinuing our alumni series for our 180th anniversary, we're highlighting some of our incredible alumni across our social channels. This week, we're focusing on artist Danny Sangra, who studied on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design from 1999–2000 at Leeds College of Art (now Leeds Arts University).

He went on to graduate in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, working in commercial illustration and design before moving into film. His distinctive style won him a loyal online following, and his 2016 debut feature, 'Goldbricks in Bloom’ starring Zosia Mamet, Jake Hoffman and Leo Fitzpatrick, garnered rave reviews amongst audiences.

Since then, he's created an extensive collection of short films and collaborated with major brands including Burberry, Mercedes-Benz, Samsung, Adidas, Sony, BBC, Nike, Vogue, and Balenciaga. In 2022 The Beatles asked Danny to direct a music video for their track 'Taxman', timed to coincide with the relaunch of their album Revolver. His latest feature film, Mostly Brutal, was released in June 2026.
