Following a hugely successful trip to the Stand Up for the Planet competition at the University of York last week, we’re delighted to share that two teams have been invited to the Houses of Parliament. One team will be competing in the National Final, while the other will be recognised with a special award during the event. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

On Monday we had the pleasure of welcoming Thorner Primary for their Day in the Life of a High School Student. They had a great day enjoying History, English. PE, Maths and Food lessons, finishing the day learning how our Coaching system is celebrated in our school. Thank you to all of Year 5 for making our day so much fun.

Last Thursday we were delighted to support some of the Leeds United U18 squad who were completing an officiating course. Our Y9 & Y10 students competed against each other whilst the Leeds players officiated the match. The atmosphere was excellent and the Leeds Utd players allowed our pupils to enjoy themselves, take things on board that they talked about and meet some potential future stars of the game. The event was great fun, but the highlight was seeing some pupils engage with extra-curricular and being given the opportunity to enjoy sport. It was a really close match finishing 1-1 but after the penalties the Y9 team were victorious, 3-2. The team were so excited and it was a pleasure seeing the Leeds United players so delighted for them. Well done to everyone who took part.

Wow! What an event! Our first Culture Day parade has taken place and our students have been fully immersed in the event. The noise, the excitement and the atmosphere created by the students who were watching fully supported the students who took part in the parade. It was an amazing occasion, thoroughly enjoyed by every member of our school community.

Our students have been fully involved in our Culture Day today, celebrating more than 50 cultures that our students represent. At lunchtime the hall was full of students gathering information about many different countries, some students were proudly wearing their national dress and there was plenty of food from different cultures to enjoy.

Culture Day is nearly upon us and school is busy getting ready to celebrate the 50 different cultures that our students have connections with. We have enjoyed music under the canopy performed by our students, food from other cultures in the canteen, and cooking from different countries in Food Technology. Today our Year 7 and 8 students have enjoyed some time creating masks representing different countries, ready for our carnival parade on Friday.

We had a lovely day with the Year 5 students from Tockwith Primary School who joined us for their Day in the Life of a High School Student. They took part in Maths, English, Computing, Music and PE lessons, experiencing how school will be different for them when they start at high school. It was a fun day with them and all the students engaged well with the learning and worked so hard.

Our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students had a great time at the weekend completing their expedition.. They did extremely well as they map read and explored the area around Stainburn Moor, Low Wood Reservoir and Timble. They showed great resilience on what was a very hot day, using the skills they have learnt in their training to support and guide each other. After a good night's sleep in camp they then navigated their way from Timble to Harlow Carr, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork despite being tired. Our Year 10 students used this walk as their training walk for their DofE Silver expedition which they will undertake in a few weeks. This involves three days of walking and two nights camping so we wish them the best of luck. Well done to everyone.

In this beautiful sunshine we have have had a great time hosting a netball tournament for our local primary schools. Our Year 10 Sports Leaders have really enjoyed running this sports afternoon, allowing the younger students the opportunity to play both benchball and netball against other primaries. Well done to all the students who took part.
