The Chinese Studies Department was established at the University of Leeds in 1962, and the first students started in 1963. In 1990, with the introduction of Japanese, it became the Department of East Asian Studies, and in 2003 it was further enlarged by the addition of Asia-Pacific and South-East Asian Studies to become one of the largest and most successful East Asian Studies departments in Europe. In 2014, we celebrated our 50th anniversary of East Asian Studies. www.leeds.ac.uk/arts/EAS50
