🎒 New term starts THIS WEEK… and we’re kicking things off with Back to School! ✏️💛

But it's about so much more than 'just' getting messy!

As an experienced primary school teacher, every session is carefully planned to give little ones the opportunity to build confidence, develop early skills and explore through play — from scooping and pouring to painting, playdough, mark-making and sensory discovery. 🌟

There’s no pressure to join in a certain way either. Your little one can dive straight in, watch for a while, stick with one favourite activity or explore the whole room. You’re both welcome exactly as you are. 🥰

My aim is for purposeful play to feel fun for them… and relaxed for you.

Our new term begins next week and I’d love to welcome some new families alongside our returning Splatters. 💕

👇 Thinking about joining us? Comment SCHOOL and I’ll send you the class times, venues and ways you can come along and try a session.

For the parents who held it together at the school gate… and then cried the second they got back to the car. 🥹❤️

This week has been HUGE.

New uniforms. New classrooms. New teachers. New routines. Little hands letting go of ours and taking another tiny step into their own world.

And amongst all the “first day” photos, there can be so much pressure for everything to feel perfect.

But maybe they refused to wear the jumper. Maybe you didn’t get the photo you imagined. Maybe there were tears at drop-off. Maybe you checked your phone 47 times. Maybe you wandered around the shops because going home to a quiet house felt just a little bit too strange. Maybe you cried too.

That’s okay. ❤️

Starting nursery, preschool or school is an enormous transition for our children — but sometimes we forget that it’s an enormous transition for us too.

We’ve spent years being their safe place, helping them explore, build confidence, make mistakes and try again… and suddenly we’re trusting someone else to hold their hand for part of the day.

As a teacher, I’ve seen just how much children can grow when they’re given the space and confidence to take those little steps independently.

And as a mum? I know that knowing all of that doesn’t necessarily make letting go any easier. 🥹

So if this week hasn’t looked like the perfect Instagram first day… please don’t measure it by the photograph.

Measure it by the cuddles afterwards. The tiny snippets they eventually tell you. The new name they mention at teatime. The confidence that will slowly begin to appear.

You’re both finding your feet. 💛

To every Splat little one who started nursery, preschool or school this week — I hope you have the most wonderful adventure.

And to their grown-ups… I hope you’re incredibly proud of yourselves too. 🥰

Tell me below — how did your little one’s first week go? ❤️

To every parent who has ever felt a little anxious about joining a class… this one’s for you 🥰

Getting a baby or toddler out of the house, dressed, fed and somewhere vaguely on time can feel like an achievement in itself. 😂

So if you’re 10 minutes late…
If your little one needs feeding halfway through…
If they’re having BIG feelings…
If you’ve forgotten the spare clothes…
Or if you’re both rocking yesterday’s outfit…

I genuinely don’t mind. ❤️

As a mum who has sat on the other side of baby and toddler classes, I know how nerve-wracking walking into somewhere new can feel — especially when you’re wondering whether your child will “behave”, join in or do what everyone else seems to be doing.

There are no expectations like that at Splat.

What I DO care about is that you feel welcome when you walk through the door, that your child feels safe to explore in their own way, and that you both leave having shared some lovely moments together. 🥰

No pressure.
No judgement.
No perfection required.

Just come exactly as you are. 🌟

And if there’s something that makes YOU nervous about joining a class, tell me below 👇

Chances are, you’re not the only parent worrying about it — and it might just be something I can make easier for you. ❤️

It’s that time of year again… 🥹

Those tiny babies who first came through the door have somehow grown into toddlers… and then into confident little children ready to head off to school. 🏫

May joined my classes not long after I opened, and over the years I’ve had the absolute pleasure of watching her grow right in front of me.

From a little girl who was happiest completely covered in mess and regularly used paint as moisturiser 🤣🎨 — to the confident, funny, clever little girl she is today.

I’ve watched her explore, create, learn, become a big sister, grow in independence and confidence… and I’ve been very lucky to receive plenty of cuddles along the way too. 🥰

And this is one of the things I love most about running Splat.

Yes, the trays are designed with purpose. We build fine motor skills, creativity, confidence, communication and independence through play.

But when families come back week after week, term after term, it becomes about so much more than the activities.

You get to know the children.

You celebrate their milestones.

You notice when they suddenly attempt something they wouldn’t have touched a few months ago.

You watch friendships form, personalities blossom and tiny babies become school-ready children.

And somewhere along the way, they become part of the Splat family. 💛

May is now off on her next big adventure at school, and I can safely say I’m going to miss seeing her in class each week.

Luckily for me, I still get to watch her little brother flourish at Splat… and I’m fully expecting visits from May on inset days and school holidays! 😂🥰

Good luck at school, May. Keep being your wonderfully messy, confident self. 🎨✨

This is why Splat has never been just messy play.

It’s purposeful play, growing confidence, building connections and being lucky enough to watch little people grow. 💖

👀 IT'S HERE…

🍂✨ AUTUMN TERM THEME REVEAL! ✨🍂

Seven weeks. Seven completely different themes. And SO many opportunities for little hands to explore, create, discover and get wonderfully messy. 🥰

This autumn we're exploring…

🎒📚 Back to School ✏️📏
🧸🐻 Going on a Bear Hunt
🌰🍁 Autumn 🍂
🐌🐍 Julia Donaldson 🐋🪱
🌽👨🏿‍🌾 Harvest Festival 🚜👩🏽‍🌾
🕷️🦆 Nursery Rhymes
🎂🎈 Splat's 4th Birthday! 🎉🥳

And, as always, the themes are only the beginning. 💛

Each week will be packed with carefully planned messy play, sensory exploration, playdough, painting and crafts — giving your little one plenty of opportunities to build confidence, get creative, practise new skills and explore completely at their own pace.

I can't wait to welcome you back for another term of teacher-led messy play, building confidence and creativity through purposeful play. 🌈

Now the important question… 👀

Which theme are you most excited for?

This week the children became the photographers!! 📸

It was lovely to see the excitement they shared as they explored each activity for our Splat Festival week 🪅🎉🪇

The room was filled with smiles and giggles as we made music with the instruments, created our own festival wristbands, splatted in muddy puddles, tried to capture the ducks 🦆

I can't wait to do it all again for our final week - Transport Week! 🚕🚗🛺✈️

Would you love your child to enjoy colourful, imaginative messy play without having to plan, prepare or clean it up at home? 🎪

I’m Samantha, a qualified teacher and the owner of Splat Messy Play Wakefield & South Leeds.

Each week, I transform our class space with themed messy play, sensory exploration, playdough, painting and creative activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

For Circus Week, the children could:
🍿 Scoop and fill their own popcorn bags
🤡 Explore curly clown hair
⭐ Roll, press and shape playdough
🥧 Get messy with Pie Face foam
🎪 Dig through the circus tent
🎨 Draw, decorate and create

Every activity was thoughtfully chosen to support skills such as grasping, scooping, hand-eye coordination, communication, creativity and confidence.
I plan the opportunities.

The children decide how their play unfolds. 💛

Which Circus station would your child choose first?

🤎 Exciting new collaboration! 🧸

I'm so excited to finally share this with you...

I've teamed up with Christ Church, Lofthouse to bring you a FREE Teddy Bears' Picnic for families! 🧺

Join us on Wednesday 19th August for an afternoon of stories, songs, teddy bear-themed crafts and plenty of fun. There'll be something for everyone to enjoy, from babies aged 5 months right through to children aged 10 years, including a dedicated teddy bear sensory area for our youngest visitors.

At Splat, I truly believe that some of the best childhood memories are made when families spend quality time together. This event is all about slowing down, connecting and enjoying a fun afternoon as a family – with your favourite teddy by your side. 🐻💛

The event is completely FREE, but pre-booking is essential so we know how many little bears to expect.

🐻 Comment BEAR below and I'll send you the booking link.

We can't wait to welcome you and meet all of your wonderful teddy bears!

What if this summer was about more than just keeping your little one busy? ☀️

The best childhood memories aren't made by rushing from one activity to the next.

They're made when children are given the time, space and encouragement to explore, create and simply be children.

That's exactly what you'll find at Splat Summer Sizzlers. 🥳

🎓 As a qualified teacher, every session is thoughtfully planned to support your child's development through purposeful play.

While they're laughing, squishing, painting and exploring, they're also building confidence, strengthening communication, developing fine motor skills and learning through every messy moment.

Each session includes:

🎨 Teacher-led activities with a different summer theme every week
🖌️ Painting experiences
🤲 Sensory and messy play trays
🌈 Homemade playdough invitations
✂️ Simple crafts to take home
✨ A dedicated sensory area for babies and toddlers

This summer we'll be stepping into four exciting adventures:

🐻 Paddington
🎨 Splat Fest
🎪 Circus
✈️ Transport

Whether your little one loves to dive straight into the paint or prefers to quietly investigate a sensory tray first, they'll always be supported to explore in the way that's right for them.

Because messy play isn't just about making a mess...

It's about nurturing curious minds, building confidence and creating magical memories you'll both treasure long after the holidays are over.

📍 Wednesdays – Kidzone, Garforth
📍 Thursdays – East Ardsley

✨ 4 weeks – £31
✨ Any 2 weeks – £18 (perfect if you're away on holiday!)

If you'd love a summer full of purposeful play, creativity and unforgettable memories, I'd love to welcome you and your little one along.

📨 Send me a message with your child's age or secure your place today.

I've been a little quiet as I've had some much needed family time.

Yesterday we enjoyed a day out with Thomas and Friends.

We had a very busy but lovely day and all slept soundly last night!

The kids loved meeting the different characters from Thomas, getting their face painted and going around the transport museum.

We had a lovely family picnic and even got to watch Thomas' tank get filled up before setting off on another journey.

I'm feeling refreshed and ready to start our summer sessions this week, kicking off with Paddington 🐻
