We are excited to share that we’ve been working towards our Sunsafe accreditation with Skcin.

At The Railway Children Hawksworth outdoor learning is at the heart of what we do. We’re outside in every season and all kinds of weather, exploring, discovering and growing.
Keeping children safe in the sun is a vital part of that journey, and we’re proud to be strengthening our practice to ensure every child can enjoy the outdoors safely and confidently. ☀️

This week The Railway Children Hawksworth had another brilliant Scientots session with Bev.

Our little scientists explored coloured light - discovering how colours are made and why rainbows appear.

Using coloured filters, the children experimented with mixing light, changing the colours on objects and investigating how filters can transform what we see.

Activities like this build early STEM confidence, helping children develop curiosity, problem-solving skills and a love of exploring how the world works. 🌈🔦💡

In April we celebrated Louise on her 8 years service and Nicci for her 5 years service to The Railway Children Hawksworth and The Railway Children, Menston.

We also said a big thank you to you our Hero of the Month, Peter.

From fixing the unfixable to keeping everything running smoothly, Peter is the handyman who saves the day time and time again. We’re grateful for all the hard work and heart he puts into what he does.

Thank you to all! 👏

🌎 Earth Day 2026 🌎

Today, children at both The Railway Children, Menston and The Railway Children Hawksworth headed out on a litter-picking adventure to Menston park and Aireborough park in Guiseley! 🗑️

Not only did we help tidy our local parks, but the children also practiced:

✅ Teamwork: Working together to fill our bags.
✅ Understanding the World: Learning about the environment and sustainability.
✅ Observation: Spotting things that don't belong in nature.
✅ Gross motor skills: Using little hands to squeeze those litter-picking rods.

We then took the recyclable materials to the recycling centres, and finished with a well deserved rest in the library, exploring books about our planet. 🌎

Well done everyone! 👏

There’s something magical about cooking on an open fire. 🔥

Today at The Railway Children Hawksworth the children created their own pitta pizzas, carefully preparing the ingredients before watching them bubble and crisp over the open fire.
The children then enjoyed eating them with some salad for their picnic lunch in the beautiful sunshine.

The children learned a range of important skills such as:
🍕building fine motor skills through spreading, cutting and assembling.
🍕understanding the world by learning about fire safety, heat and cooking.
🍕building confidence and independence through real life tasks.

They showed incredible teamwork, curiosity and pride in their creations. Well done our little explorers.

We are so lucky to have use of the wonderful Forest School area at Hawksworth CE Primary.

Today our Children at The Railway Children Hawksworth learned all about Passover.

One of our parents, Naomi, joined us to read a story and explain the meaning behind the holiday - including why people don’t eat bread during this time and choose matzah instead.

The children were engaged, showed curiosity and were eager to learn.

Thank you Naomi for coming in this morning. 😀

This week at The Railway Children Hawksworth the children have been busy making their very own hummus for snack time. They chopped, measured, squeezed, blended and the results were delicious.

Through this simple recipe, the children explored a whole range of Early Years Foundation Stage learning

- Physical development
- Mathematics
- Communication and Language
- Understanding the World
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development

It’s amazing how much learning can happen in one little bowl of hummus.
