Dear families,

A very warm welcome back after what I hope was a great break in the sun!

This week, students in Years 7-10 visited Blackpool Zoo and Sealife Centre. This trip was both a great opportunity to enhance knowledge of animals and habitats for Biology and Geography students and a fun way of relaxing and enjoying time with friends - something our students certainly deserve!

Our Cycle 3 assessments have begun, meaning that whenever Year 11 aren't in the hall, other years are. These annual exams help us to understand what support each student needs in each subject, while also giving students experience of exam conditions and expectations before their GCSEs.

I'm pleased to share that some of our students will be invited to take part in the Bradford Pupil Voice Sustainability Summit, an exciting event focused on climate action and young people’s ideas for a more sustainable future. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop confidence, leadership, and communication skills by sharing their ideas and representing the school. They will be able to learn from other schools, explore real-world environmental issues, and connect their interests to future careers in growing β€œgreen” industries. The event also encourages teamwork, creativity, and a sense of responsibility for the world around them. Mr Carrington will be leading on this, so do keep an eye out for his announcement in Morning Meeting.

We've also launched our Flamingo Land recognition event this week. Students who attend school every day between now and the end of term will be able to join their friends on a trip to Flamingo Land in September. This trip is a real highlight of the school year, and I hope that everyone has excellent attendance and is able to attend.

Finally, I want to commend our Year 11s, who have come back with renewed energy from the break and are still tackling those exams with resilience. I'm looking forward to seeing those results in August!

Dear families,

With Half Term upon us, I want to wish you all a very pleasant break in what looks to be excellent weather.

This week we've seen our Year 8 Rugby Boys team make it to their championship final, demonstrating that hard work and resilience that we strive for here at Dixons Unity. We've also had many of our students representing us on the cricket pitch which is a sport we really value in the Dixons Trust.

This week we've also had our all-important reading tests, which let us know where each of our students are at as individuals when it comes to their literacy, and helps us to determine how best we can support them. I was really happy to hear that the vast majority of students showed integrity and took these tests very seriously.

I also want to commend our students on their improved behaviour this week. Despite some inclement weather and classroom changes, the majority of our students have carried themselves with maturity and respect, particularly at social times.

Well done as well to our Year 11s, who are working hard as they make their way through this middle point of their exams. Energy has remained high in this second week, and I hope everyone is looking forward to that much-needed break. Rest, relax, and (of course) revise!

I look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 1st June.
