☀️💦 Morning Water Play Fun! 🌈🐠
What a wonderful morning we’ve had exploring our new water pipe system in the garden! The children were busy creating their own waterways, pouring, scooping and watching the water travel through the pipes.
To extend the learning, we added translucent rainbow fish along with a selection of rainbow-coloured jugs, scoops, tweezers and pots. The children enjoyed sorting by colour, collecting matching items and experimenting with different ways to move the fish through the water.
This activity encouraged:
🌈 Colour recognition and sorting
💧 Cause and effect learning
✋ Fine motor skills through pouring, scooping and using tweezers
🗣️ Language development through discussions about colours, water movement and problem-solving
🤝 Turn-taking and cooperative play
🔬 Early STEM learning through investigation and experimentation.
The children were fully engaged, showing fantastic curiosity, concentration and creativity as they explored the different resources and discovered how the water flowed through the pipes.
A lovely morning of hands-on learning, sensory exploration and most importantly lots of smiles! 😊💦🌈

🐝 A Wonderful Woodland Morning! 🌳🍃
With the temperatures rising during this week’s heatwave, we headed off to the woods this morning where we could enjoy the cool shade of the trees and feel the gentle breeze while exploring nature together.
The children collected beautiful dandelions during our walk and used them to decorate our bee threading boards in a lovely sheltered spot amongst the trees. This sparked some wonderful conversations about the life cycle of a dandelion as we compared the bright yellow flowers with the fluffy seed heads, leading to some wonderful observations about how they change and grow. 🌼✨
We also enjoyed colouring bee pictures, carefully talking about the patterns and colours we see on real bees and why these important pollinators are so special to our environment. 🐝💛
Another favourite activity was exploring light and shadow using our nature colour paddles. The children were fascinated as they held them up to the sunshine and watched colourful images appear on the path in front of them. This encouraged lots of curiosity, observation and discussion about how light travels and creates shadows. 🌈☀️
It was a lovely morning filled with nature, creativity, scientific discovery and plenty of fresh air. Sometimes the simplest experiences outdoors create the richest learning opportunities 🍃💚

🐝🌼 Happy World Bee Day 🌼🐝
Today we have been busy little bees exploring fun, hands-on activities all about bees! 💛🖤
For our first activity, the children enjoyed a fine motor and number challenge using tongs to transfer felt balls and little bees onto the number logs, as well as carefully balancing them on the golf tees in the wooden block. We matched our sensory bee number stones to the correct amount of felt balls placed on the logs and golf tees — a lovely way to build number recognition, coordination and concentration through play 🐝🔢✨
Our second activity brought lots of giggles with a shared game of Bee Kerplunk! 🍃🐝 We took turns pulling out the leaves and whenever a bee dropped out, we all flapped our arms and buzzed like bees together!
As we played, we also practiced singing the “This is the Beehive” song that we learnt in our BilinguaSing Leeds North and East class yesterday, which the children absolutely loved joining in with 🐝🎶
A lovely day of learning through play while celebrating these amazing little pollinators that help our world bloom 🌸🐝

🐞 Ladybird Exploration Play 🐞
Today we enjoyed a lovely ladybird-themed activity inspired by our regular visits to our special “ladybird tree” in the park – a favourite spot that’s always full of ladybirds in the spring and summer 🌳✨
After chatting about our trips to the park and the ladybirds we always spot, the children were excited to explore our tray. Little hands carefully picked up the wooden ladybirds, turning them over and counting the spots, trying to find the matching pairs. Some of the older children began adding the numbers together, proudly sharing their answers, while the younger ones enjoyed exploring the textures and moving the pieces around.
The ladybird pebbles and number pebbles were a big hit as the children counted the spots on top and matched them to the correct number pebbles, enjoying the smooth, sensory feel of the pebbles in their hands as they played.
At the bug house, the mini beast cubes sparked lots of curiosity. The children began sorting them into groups, lining them up to make simple patterns, and even creating their own little sequences. It was lovely to see them concentrating and developing their own ideas through play.
We also shared some ladybird books together, turning the pages to find pictures that looked just like the ones we see on our “ladybird tree,” helping to bring their real-life experiences into their learning 🥰
Learning through play like this helps build confidence, curiosity, and a love for nature from an early age 🌿

🌳INTO THE WOODS🌳
This morning we set off on our very own little woodland adventure 🌿✨
With curiosity leading the way, we enjoyed a lovely long walk through the woods. The air was calm and peaceful, and we could hear the gentle sounds of birds singing all around us — such a beautiful, relaxing start to our day.
Along the way, we spotted some bright yellow buttercups and couldn’t resist stopping to collect a few. We found the perfect little spot to sit together, where the children carefully observed the flowers and created their own drawings. It was so lovely to see their focus and creativity shine 🌼
We then explored even more, using our nature colour palette cards to match the colours we could see around us. From soft greens to earthy browns and sunny yellows, the children loved discovering how many colours nature has to offer.
Our adventure continued when we discovered a hidden den tucked amongst the trees! The children were so excited — we spent time playing inside and even added our own special touches by collecting twigs and building onto it together.
A peaceful, creative, and joy-filled morning in nature 🍃💛

🐇🥕PETER RABBIT🥕🐇
Today we set up a simple, engaging activity designed to support imaginative play, early maths skills, and fine motor development.
The children used tongs to carefully “plant” carrots in Mr McGregor’s garden, strengthening their hand muscles and coordination while also practising counting and turn-taking.
Their imaginations truly came to life as they then role-played the story of Peter Rabbit, sneaking into the garden to “steal” the carrots they had planted themselves.
This type of play supports storytelling, language development, and creativity, while also encouraging problem-solving and social interaction.
