Data journalism 📊 is relatively new, experimental field. Data journalists are passionate about statistical literacy, numeracy and transparency and are deeply concerned about the growth of ‘fake news’.
Tell us what approach of data presentation works for you and what doesn’t. How do we increase data literacy and fight fake news 📰

Stock photographers produce many of images we see in the news nowadays. They only receive feedback from the organisation that purchases and circulates their images. Together we can change this! 💪🏻
Let us know what you think, and we will tell them. What you like to see, and what do don’t like to see? The images are for you after all!

The audience is always in the mind of data journalists. The creators of charts and graphics are anxious of appearing patronising, boring, or worst of all misinforming. For some content creators, ‘simplicity’ is the gold standard for good communication with audiences. Do you agree? Are you scared by numbers 🤯 What would you like to say to these creators of charts and graphics? Tell us and we will tell them 🗣

There are a plethora of memes showing women laughing with 🥗
Photographers cringe at images they consider ‘cheesy’ yet acknowledge that ‘the cheese’ could sometimes be the magic ingredient for a viral moment - like women laughing with salad. We have talked to various image creators, but now we want to hear what you think – is this cheesy? What is cheesy? Why do you think some images go viral? What’s the magic ingredient? We are all👂

UK government ‘Rethink. Reskill. Reboot’ campaign, Nov 2020.
As has been detailed by commentators ever since its publication, the image was cropped and taken out of content in a grim post-pandemic world that has little time or space for the arts 🩰. The campaign suggests that young people should reconsider their creative dreams and be more realistic about their future. What do you think 🤔 Let us know!

Our research on images in the news is based at the University of Leeds and is funded by Arts & Humanities Research Council. We partner with leading UK news organisations: The BBC Yorkshire, The Financial Times and Reach PLC (publisher of Mirror, Express & Manchester Evening News etc).
People don’t usually get asked how they feel about images used in the news - so we want to hear your thoughts.

This is a research project on images in the news 🗞. One aim of the research is to understand the effect photos, graphs, charts, and other visual elements have. We want to know how news images can have a positive impact on our society.
To achieve this, we are currently organising a series of discussions with audiences, and we will feed back our findings to news organisations. We need to hear from you!
