> silver body, mechanism, and headjoint
> E-mech & C sharp trill
> excellent condition
> complete & original
> modern pitch
> recently serviced by us
Philipp Hammig's status as one of the world great flute and piccolo makers has been secured over many years of production. This example is a modern flute with all the extras. We serviced this flute a couple of years ago, since when it has hardly been used. We have nevertheless checked it over ready for sale.
The build-quality is extra-ordinary, and the attention to detail noteable, such as in the white footjoint rollers. The keys fall naturally under the fingers. There is a real feeling of solidity and dependability, combined with a verve as the flute comes to life when you blow it. With a big rich voice, it makes an interesting alternative to Japanese models with the same specification, and a good-value one too.
The flute comes in its original case and is complete with its original pair of tenon caps

Dear Flutist, Flautist, and Flute Player,
As many of you seem to be engaged on here with this tiny sideways blowing pipe, letâs talk once again about the piccolo. Yes, the unashamed troublemaker of the flute familyâthe instrument that can communicate with wildlife, shatter the bravado of even the most stoic orchestra members, and turn a perfectly peaceful rehearsal into a test of everyoneâs patience (and hearing đł).
First, letâs address the presence of a piccolo. Its mere arrival in a rehearsal is enough to make even the hardest brass player nervously shuffle their sheet music. You uncase it, and suddenly, the violins look uneasy, the conductor takes a deep breath, and the percussionist casually checks if they remembered their earplugs. Itâs not just an instrumentâitâs a warning!!
And then thereâs the sound. The piccolo doesnât just play notes; it declares them, usually at a frequency that only dogs and bats truly appreciate. When played well, it soars like a songbird on a spring morning. When played poorly⊠well, letâs just say thereâs a reason no one invites the piccolo to play lullabies.
Letâs not forget its uncanny ability to communicate with nature. Play a high C outdoors, and youâll summon every bird in the vicinity. A rapid trill? Suddenly, squirrels are chattering back, thinking youâve issued some kind of woodland emergency alert. The piccolo doesnât just belong in the orchestraâit belongs in a Disney movie, summoning forest animals for a dramatic rescue scene.
But, oh, the tuning. If youâre not a good playerâor if youâre having a bad dayâthe piccolo has a way of broadcasting your struggles to everyone within a five-mile radius. Too sharp, and it feels like an attack on the very concept of harmony. Too flat, and it sounds like the piccolo is questioning its life choices. Getting it just right? Thatâs the stuff of legend, whispered about in flute sections but rarely seen in the wild.
And yet, for all its quirks, the piccolo is a marvel. Itâs fearless, unapologetic, and utterly unique. It takes a special kind of musician to embrace its chaotic brilliance and wield it with precision. So, to all the brave piccolo players out there: we see you, we hear you (oh boy, do we hear you), and we salute you đ
Yours in high-pitched hilarity,
Jean-Paul (Flute Geezer at TJ flutes - London)
