We were delighted to welcome Professor Sarah Howard, Professor of Digital Learning at the University of Leeds, to St Benedict’s this week.

As part of a funded research project exploring how digital platforms impact pupil outcomes, Professor Howard observed two lessons showcasing high-quality teaching using Reading Plus Daisy Education UK and Learning By Questions Learning by Questions .

She was particularly impressed by the purposeful way our teachers integrate digital platforms into their practice to enhance learning.

Professor Howard reflected:

“These teachers were moving beyond simple use of platforms to support learning, drawing on rich resources to strengthen their quality teaching practice. The sophistication of how they used insights from the platforms to support their students, in real time, was impressive.”

A huge thank you to Mrs Lunn and Miss Ireton-Bourke for opening their classrooms, and to our fantastic Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, who were exceptional ambassadors for our school.

We are incredibly proud of our staff and pupils. Recognition at this level reflects the commitment and ambition that underpin everything we do at St Benedict’s.

Ash Wednesday

Although our schools are closed for half term, we would usually gather together as school communities to observe Ash Wednesday and begin the season of Lent.

Before the break, the BKCAT primary school pupils prepared and shared a special liturgy with their school communities, allowing us to mark this important day together in prayer and reflection.

We invite you to watch and follow along with the liturgy as we enter this sacred season of Lent.

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Genesis 3:19

Let us pray:

Lord God,
as we begin this season of Lent,
help us to grow in kindness, compassion and faith.
Guide us to reflect on our actions,
to care for those in need,
and to walk more closely with you each day.
Amen.

Did you know we have a Nursery on our school site?

Not just any Nursery, but an exceptional Early Years setting in the heart of Garforth.

Before the Christmas break, our Year 5 pupils proudly led a Space Explorers Exhibition 🚀🌍, sharing their learning with families 👨👩👧👦.

The children demonstrated fantastic creativity ✨ through their projects and impressed visitors with their confidence and knowledge as they explained what they had learned 👩🚀🛰️🔭. It was wonderful to see pupils so engaged, articulate, and proud of their work.

We are so fortunate to have such an active and dedicated PTA, who work tirelessly to create memorable experiences for our children and families. Thank you for everything you do ❤️.

We are still talking about the wonderful Christmas Craft Event planned and hosted by our PTA 🎄✨. The children enjoyed a range of festive activities — and they even managed to get Father Christmas to visit at this busy time of year! 🎅

As we come to the end of a busy term filled with celebrations, we would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas. We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved rest.
