Day 10: When to Use ESTAR in Spanish

One of the most important verbs in Spanish is ESTAR.

We use it to talk about:

• how we feel
• where we are
• temporary situations

But instead of memorising rules, it’s much easier to understand ESTAR through real-life examples.

In Day 10 of the 90 Days of Spanish series, we look at how this verb works in everyday conversation.

Try this:

Write one sentence using ESTAR to describe how you feel right now or where you are.

I’ll read the comments and help refine them.

Nos vemos en el Día 11.

Day 9: Stop Confusing SER and ESTAR

One of the most common beginner mistakes in Spanish is confusing SER and ESTAR.

Many people memorise rules but still hesitate when speaking.

In Day 9 of the 90 Days of Spanish series, we break it down in a much simpler way:

Not permanent vs temporary.

But identity vs state.

Once you understand that difference, things become much clearer.

Try this exercise:

Write one sentence about yourself using SER and explain why it makes sense.

I’ll read the comments and help refine them.

Nos vemos en el Día 10.

If your Spanish sounds like this:

“I work. I study. I’m tired.”

You’re not alone.

Most beginners speak in short, disconnected sentences — not because they lack vocabulary, but because they don’t know how to connect ideas.

In Day 8 of the 90 Days of Spanish series, I show you how to:

• Use simple connectors (y, pero, porque, entonces)
• Speak in full sentences
• Think in “chunks” instead of word by word
• Sound more natural immediately

You don’t need more words.
You need structure.

Try this: write two simple sentences about your life and connect them in Spanish. I’ll help you refine them 👇

Nos vemos en el Día 9.

If you keep forgetting Spanish verbs, it’s not because you’re bad at languages.

It’s usually because you’re studying them the wrong way.

In today’s lesson (Day 7 of the 90 Days of Spanish series), I explain why re-reading notes doesn’t work — and what actually helps verbs stick in your memory long-term.

This is where we start learning how to learn, not just what to memorise.

If you're following the series, keep going.
If you're new, start from Day 1 and build step by step.

Consistency beats intensity every time.

Nos vemos en el Día 8 👋

Most people struggle with Spanish verbs because they try to memorise everything.

But Spanish verbs follow patterns.

Day 6 of my 90 Days of Spanish series is live — and today we break down how regular -AR verbs actually work.

Once you understand the pattern, you unlock dozens of verbs instantly.

No overwhelm.
No complicated grammar.
Just structure.

👇 Try this:
Write one sentence using a verb like hablar, trabajar, estudiar, or mirar — and I’ll help you improve it.

Small steps. Clear progress.

If you’ve been learning Spanish but still freeze in conversations… it’s often because you can’t ask questions yet.

Day 5 of my 90 Days of Spanish series is live — and today we’re learning how to ask simple questions in Spanish (the kind you’ll actually use in real life).

No overwhelm. No grammar overload. Just usable Spanish.

👇 Try this:
Ask me ONE question in Spanish in the comments (even a simple one) and I’ll help you improve it.

If you’ve been learning Spanish but still struggle to actually speak… this is for you.

Day 4 of my 90 Days of Spanish series is live. Today we’re focusing on something simple but powerful: how to talk about your day in Spanish using short, natural sentences.

No overwhelm. No grammar overload. Just usable Spanish.

Small steps done consistently make a huge difference.

Most people don’t struggle with learning Spanish because of grammar or vocabulary.
They struggle with confidence.

Learning another language forces you to be present, to let go of perfection, and to communicate clearly with limited tools.
That confidence doesn’t stay in the classroom — it transfers.

This is why I see language learning as training in communication skills, not just learning words.

If you’re based in Leeds and curious about this approach, I’ll be exploring it further in a small, in-person Spanish immersion workshop this January.

More details in the comments.
